A midlife single university teacher in ornithology feels deeply unhappy with his life so far and starts pondering what made it that way. But although he is able to find part of the answers, he doesn’t have the courage to change it. When he is sent on a field research job in Alaska, the total change in environment brings him this courage and he enjoys the new-found freedom with the help of an extraordinary guide.

Patrick William Harrison has a life that's pretty close to perfect—at least to the outside eye. A wealthy family, a handsome husband and a beautiful multi-million dollar home. But his world spins out of its orbit when he discovers his husband's unsavory secret one day, and he's left with a difficult decision to make. As he tries to navigate his new reality he taps into a whole new level of himself that enables him do some pretty dark things to the one he claims to love.

Kevin Thorne's life was pretty straight forward. With a loving mother and an adorable but annoying six year old brother as family, he didn't think he needed anyone else to make it better. But as usual, just when you think you have it all figured out, life throws a curve ball. And Kevin now has to adjust to accommodate a stranger in his family - a stranger who brings sudden change in how he felt about a lot of things in his life.

Alex leaves for college and gets roped into a party with his roommate, Casey. It doesn't take long to realize that not everyone is human, or friendly.

This is an odd little story adapted from an idea for a collaboration a long time ago. It changes points of view and goes from first person to third, although not within the same chapter...I think. The name comes from a 'saying' or 'colloquialism' that equates everything being jake; to everything being fine or good, which in the end it is. Or is it?

Sometimes we start over, even when we don't want to. Sometimes we find help where we hadn't asked for or known we needed it. And sometimes, we end up helping someone else along the way.

This story is autobiographical in nature, but I have made some modifications to protect the identities of those included in it. All the names have been changed, and in some cases things such as gender, locations, and sometimes familial compositions have been altered.

All that being said, this is MY truth, and it's time I released it so that I'm free to create from a place other than brokenness and sadness.

This will be dark, but there are spots of light in the great black. No void is truly empty when one gazes into it. The light from our eyes illuminates more than we realize.
