Poetry Prompt 4 - METER 1

Recommended Posts

AC, I just realized that each of your poetry prompts build off each other. So, I'm feeling far more confident when I look at the more intimidating forms (Sonnet, Ballade, etc), because I know I'll get better with each new form as I get closer to the harder ones.  :) Thank you!

Now... I just need to master the Meter ;)

Yes, Drew, it's true. I designed the series to be a course in how to advance in poetics. The stuff we learn all builds on what we've already tackled. I'm excited that you've started on the journey!

Here is my attempt at responding to this metre prompt.

Brown the meat, garlic beat, pepper grind, onion slice,
Wash my hands, open cans, oops! Forgot, carrots dice.
Meat reserve, lost my nerve; oh don't cry, onions fry.
Add all in, simmer, grin; pasta boil, end of toil.

Thanks for taking the poetry prompt challenge! It's all perfect!

If I were cooking up this stanza with you, I bet I'd need a glass of wine or two in the ingredient list, but then again, I don't think I could do this exercise as perfectly as you've done it here (with or without the vin). Very well done! :yes:

Iambic trimeter:

Your cakes and pies are frights;

I yawn at steaks and hams;

No other dish delights

Like peach ice cream with clams.

Anapestic trimeter:

To a Londoner's palate, it's true,

Nothing equals a well-roasted lamb;

But it pales in comparison to

A nice lemon sorbet with a clam.

I do like the idea of redheads as one's favorite food.
