    We and Edward are spared from the paranoia of Captain Hughes by a lucky dip in the cold waters. Edward is now God on his own ship. It's almost like Blackwood pushed him overboard himself.

    It is too bad Edward is only a baronet. From 1499 to 1948, to be a peer was largely beyond the law. Only 30 peers were tried in the House of Lords and most weren't punished. Until 1841, a lord could claim privilege even for murder on a first offense and walk away free.

    Shem doesn't see the tactical advantage yet and Kit is still locked in a battle for dominance. He now has an access point to the very heart of the machine. He can subvert scrolls to his will if Kit wins. Rade has gotten to the emotionally stunted Shem at last.

    The power of the Order is integral to the mythology of the Mender. Once the Mender is found, the Order ceases to be as important. The Mender becomes the power. What a mess!
