Future Anthology Blogs

I have some exciting plans for the anthology blog this year, including a series of writing tips.  I'd like to get an idea of what else authors/readers would like to see here in the Thursday anthology blog.  Please comment or message me about any topics you would like to see addressed, and I will do my best to accommodate.  Also let me know if you like the anthology rewinds, where past anthologies are re-featured.  It's not too early to get started writing for our Poetry Anthology - Diversity or

It's here!  The moment we've all been eagerly waiting for!  It's time to announce the 2026 Anthology theme!  But before we do, you know we like to keep everyone on their toes, so there's a bit of a twist for 2026.   This year we decided on.... Two themes!  So if one doesn't strike your fancy, hopefully the other one will.  Ideally, both will inspire authors to write a story for each.  So without further ado, here are the themes for the 2026 GA Anthology! Upcoming Writing Events

It's been a busy year with writing events here at GA so far.  We started with our second tribute to Carlos Hazday - Auld Lang Syne, and continued with our annual Poetry Anthology - Diversity, followed by a tribute to a GA icon, Comicality - Coming of Age.  A favorite of both authors and reader is the annual Secret Author contest, which just concluded.   Now it's time to focus on the annual Anthology - Creature Feature, which is due on October 1st.  Guidelines can be found here:  I've

Decisions, Decisions

I have a really awesome blog post in the works for next week, but in keeping with our upcoming Secret Author contest, my lips are sealed   You'll have to tune in next week to see what it is.  In the meantime, here are the guidelines for the SA contest and the annual anthology.  Which one will you participate in?  Don't answer that... letting us know you are writing a story for the SA contest will get you disqualified so   You can tell us if you are writing for the Creature Feature anthology, tho

2023 Anthology - Leap of Faith - Roll Call!

Who's getting excited for the annual GA Anthology?   The deadline for submission to the Proof Team is October first, which is approaching fast.  It's only six and a half weeks away! 😮 We accept submissions at any time, so send on your stories as soon as they are finished.  I've started threads in the Anthology forum for the guidelines, discussion, and links to stories.  I'm hoping to have two stories this time around, so fingers crossed I can get them both finished in time.  Who else

2025 Anthology - Creature Feature - Guidelines

I'm super excited about this year's theme!  There are so many possibilities.... Do I go with a cute fluffy kitty?  Or maybe a fire-breathing dragon?  Or an army of Norse penguins fighting Canadian otters?   It's a good thing there's a lot of time before the deadline, although with my prowess at procrastinating, I probably won't start till the week it's due   The guidelines for this year's anthology are posted below.  So now that we know the theme and the parameters... start writing!

Raise Your Hand

While we're all eagerly awaiting the reveal of the Secret Author stories, I thought it would be a good time to check in and see how those anthology stories are coming along! We can't reveal the participants of the SA contest yet (or I should say Cia can't.  I have zero insider knowledge about it.  Yes, it's that secret!), but we can openly talk about who's writing what for the annual anthology.  I've already had five stories submitted to the proof team - which is a record this far from the due d

I Don't Like the Anthology Theme. What do I do?

GA features several writing events throughout the year, usually with a theme.  When themes are announced, there are generally two reactions - yay, I love it! or WTF were you thinking?  Participating in site events is fun and a great way to get your work out there and gain new readers.  So, what happens when you want to participate in a site event but don't like the theme?  I'm going to outline some tips and tricks to still participating, even if the theme doesn't "speak" to you.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Joyous Kwanzaa to all who celebrate! I'm still in a bit of a food coma from Christmas dinner, but I wanted to bring a reminder and also some important news for next year's anthology.  First, submissions for Carlos' tribute event are due tomorrow, so be sure to put the finishing touches on your stories and post the link in the thread in the Writer's Circle.  Second, I decided to do things a little differently this year, and instead of having a committee decide

2013 Fall Anthology "pandora's Box" Now Live!

If you're in the US, or at least anywhere that it's still Thursday, I'm betting you're going "Wait a minute, it's not Friday yet!" Well, you're right, but after much thought, I decided I really didn't want to release the anthology on Friday the 13th. Well, at least, not everywhere! So, without further ado, the anthology had been released. We had a lot of interest in the theme of Pandora's box, to be more precise, 22 authors decided to take up the challenge. Mixed in with the Anthology Veterans a

Before we get to that, we have a couple of things to take care of.   In order to encourage authors to participate in the anthologies, we came up with some author incentives. All authors who partic
