Apparently, there is a recycling hierarchy and Happy Birthday to The Shack!

Twice something like this has happened, and I'm really starting to wonder when recycling started to require this much organization by the masses. The first time I went with Rich and the kids, and we probably had about seven trash bags full of cans and bottles and there was some crazy line of people waiting to use the self-service machines. Additionally, there is a guy working there who will weigh large amounts of stuff that you separate into big trash cans. Well the first time, we used the machi

Mourning

Just under thirty hours ago my grandfather passed away. It was shocking. He'd been ill for the past month but his condition seemed stabilized.   To explain the significance of this event let me clarify that my grandfather has always been my primary male, parental figure. We've always been very close and gotten along really well. I just can't begin to explain the shock and incomprehension that I am experiencing as I realize that I'll never hear his voice again. I've never lost a close fa

GUESS WHO I MET TODAY

Catchy little title for not having written one for awhile.   Not that long ago, I found out someone was going to be in the area for a day at Hershey Park. I sent an email to see if he'd like to meet up since I only live about an hour and a half away from the park.   The day started out a little cool and rainy. Fortunately, it quite just before the park opened for the day. And just to make sure I was easily identified, I wore my yellow Talon T-shirt, the same one I took a picture of and use f

Once upon a time... (I may have already used this title once)

I became the mother of a freshman in high school. HOLY f**kING SHIT.   Also, she invited a boy over today. Seriously.   I'm plotting against her in a cute way, and I'm actually really excited. Have to wait till Sunday for the payoff though, and I'm not so good at the waiting thing.   Once upon a time...   I told this guy at work, Daniel, that I write gay romance and that I think he's adorable and I'd love to write him someday. He told me he writes poetry. I gave him the link to my site.

DEARLY; departed

As I am writing this I am sitting in my lit class. My Professor, who likes to be called "Lewis" is talking about romanticism. I've been playing Chess for quite a while and keep using the 'undo' ability because I keep losing. It isn't that I don't respect what he is saying, but it is so methodical. He has gray hair and I'd clock him in his mid 50's, maybe early 60's. He screams literature. Powdery white hair, gravelly, lecture voice. The guy oozes the love for word, poetry and cracked out play wr

Got To Draw The Line Somewhere...

She told me I couldn't take a shower this morning because I was just going to go out in the sun get all sweaty, come home and shower again... And then proceed to tell me that I'm wasting all of her mom's money, when she's the one sleeping with the a/c on all night long...   Way to make me feel like shit...   So Fine I say I'll go shower at my own house, but no that won't work for you either...   I don't mind spending all my time with you because I know you're only here for a week. I don'

The Pros and Cons of Breathing...

First off, since I publicly dragged it all out here, or at least my side of it, my feelings anyway, there were never 'sides', I want to say that I'm sorry I did that. It was probably unfair in some ways and it should have been between you and me... I just didn't know what else to do. I had to get it out there, out from inside me, and I don't know if it helped, but I certainly am much happier now. Anyway, when I see you, I'll probably call you an asshole and then hug you and never let go, so fair

Untitled....and untranslated just for the hell of it.

Here's the first section of the first chapter of the story I've been working on.......in Greek.   "Μπαμπά, πρέπει να ακούσετε αυτό;" griped Ι, για την επίτευξη του Ipod πριν έκανε ένα δυνατό κτύπημα στο χέρι μου. Crack Music

I listen to Happy Hardcore, a genre of Techno that my friends cheerfully refer to as crack music. I finally ripped a couple old CDs of the stuff from high school onto my iPod this week, so I had absolutely no problem staying awake all night at work. My coworkers think I'm crazy, since a side effect of Happy Hardcore is that I grin maniacally and occasionally make movements into dancing.   I've forgotten how exhausting it is to be a full adult. It feels like I never have a chance to catch my b

Stanford chemo/transplant

I've been a little quiet recently, basically just recovering for the collection process which took longer than originally expected by almost a week. So, to make sure I had an adequate recovery time, the rest of my schedule got bumped so instead of having gone in June 3, I am now going in tomorrow, June 10 to start the week of heavy chemo and then a week from today, I'll get the transplant (ie, the cells that were collected from me will be reintroduced).   It will take a while for them to sett

Give it your own title

I guess the first thing I should do is get the dust rag out and wipe the spiderwebs off of my blog. I can't believe it's been so long since I've logged on to GA. Actually, this is the first time in a long time I've been able to sit down and catch my breath in a long time.   I'm sure that everyone knows by know, but for those that might not know, I became a dad in April. My head's still spinning a little bit, but the newness of it is pretty much gone now, if that makes any sense. My daughter a

Gym? What's a gym?

Jumped on the scales this morning...   Not good.   Used to be pretty big (108kg/240lb), lost a lot of it when I was nineteen (76kg/170lb), and now I've put exactly half of it back on (92kg/205lb). Dunno how I feel about that just yet. I'm almost twenty-three now, a couple of inches taller taller than I was at nineteen and a whole lot broader through the shoulders, so I guess that explains a bit of it. Still, feels like I've let some of that good work go to waste. Bit disappointed in myself,

extraordinary \/\/@y$

I'm writing this now smelling like cheap wine and cigarettes. I swear my friends went through at least 2 packs each tonight.   Tonight, considering it a Sunday the day of rest, we went and bought four bottles of the cheapest wine we could find (11.99) or something. It was cheap and not worth of my throat, but it went down anyways in all of the cheap glory it held. Giving me a weird drunk, I washed that down with a few bowls, we pushed the car into the sand (we went to crystal cove) - we had to
