Weekly Wrap Up (Jul. 12 - Jul. 18)

    By wildone

We had an interesting discussion last week with the Weekly Wrap Up. I see the weather has broke in some places and yet others is getting worse 😮  Up here in Canada, it is so hot and dry we are burning up. Over 1000 wildfires going on right now   I wouldn't go camping now unless it was on a river or lake shore.  So back to one of the parts of the camping theme, I mentioned about swimming. So if you never went camping, or you like 5 star service in a hotel or you camped on a lake or you

what are you?

I was thinking yesterday on my drive home from work, where they had asked me to cover someone's shift on my day off who was apparently supposed to get suspended, and then didn't, and then when I walked in they said, "Oh shit! I forgot to call you to say nevermind..." and I was wondering if being optimistic is the same thing as having faith?   To me, being optimistic means you hope for the best, hope that things will work out well, but having faith... well that's a different matter altogether.

Soapboxes and tippling

Yes, it's a fatal mistake to provide me with a soapbox. I'm an incurable yabberer. Prob is, I'm also a keen tippler and I tend to write these things in the evening when I'm... well, a tad merry. And I wake in the morning and say, "OMG! What the bloody hell did I write last night!" Yes, dear Breth, I'm a worry.   Meanwhile, a visitor left a message asking "how's Ned?" For the uninitiated, Ned Kelly was an infamous and notorious bushranger in Oz in the late 19th century. He was hanged at age 24

On Laptops and Accessories

I got a PM from a student requesting advice on buying a notebook PC and I thought that I would share my suggestions here in my blog. These are just a few of my thoughs and suggestions. I would be delighted if it gave anybody inspiration or ideas. If not, well... it is here for free. _________________________________________________________________________   I suggest either HP or Dell. Both are very solid and priced competetivly. Both have websites that let you design and price your own confi

The Thinking Fossil's Blog

Yes, I'm a thinker and a fossil. My best friend called me a fossil 10 years ago! Cheeky bugger. But, he also called me AOD (awesome old dude) because I called him OAD (one awesome dude). It was one of those silly mutual thingies.   However, since becoming addicted to writing, I've discovered that thinking is like any other exercise... it encourages growth. Years ago, a friend accused me of thinking too much (I was 21). I wonder what he would say now. Ya know, I suspect that most people don't

This is what happened

So for anyone who might be wondering how my move went, and more specifically what I've been up to for the past three weeks. Here's the deal:   Thursday, May 3rd: My move in date is set for Friday May 11th. However, I find out that it's a friend's graduation on that day so I call the new apartment complex to see if I can move in on the 10th instead. "Fine", they say. I set up my utilities to be turned in at the new place on the 9th.   Saturday, May 5th: I call to confirm the move in date.

they came, he cheered, guess what?

... I'm still short   So I was at work on Saturday and may have witnessed one of life's oddities... This woman, at least 50, in way too short shorts, flip flops, and fake blond hair is complaining that her husband bought her some tulips from the store and that they aren't fresh. Apparently in her quest for the ultimate tulip she complained to someone in the department who allegedly told her that if she wants fresh tulips she'll probably have to go to Holland. Now, while I could see one of the

Will not be online much

Well, Scott and I had a major argument today. Not sure where things are going to go from this point. But I guess the root of all my evils is the time I spend on the computer. From my perspective, the amount of time I spend on the computer is the effect and not the cause, but who am I to know anything. But I'm tired of the argument. So, I'm going to be staying off the computer for a while. Not completely, because I don't want to lose touch with some people. So will still be on long enough

More about moi

I have been known to wear funny hats. There's a restaurant in Darlinghurst (dunno if it's still there) we called 'The Hat Place' which we regularly frequented...'we' as in my lunatic mates who seemed quite sane by comparison to moi. The restaurant raided all the local op shops and gathered quite a collection of school hats, wedding veils, floral hats, large hats, small hats, hats of all descriptions and made them available to patrons. Mind you, it took several glasses of wine before patrons were

Thinking aloud...no, make that allowed

Well, here I go. It's late-ish and I've had a few tipples so it could be dangerous. I took a bit of a squiz around GA (first time today) and checked out a few interesting forum entries. Hey, we have some thinkers here! Good show! Cerebral activity is one of the few activities I can pursue these days without running outta breath.   I'm writing a book at the mo titled 'The Inevitable Murder of Horace Fink'. It's quite a departure from the two books I've already written, which are biographies of

A Comment by Ieshwar

I saw this comment in This or That and thought I'd use it as a blog entry.   Ieshwar said:   It is possible for someone to spend years in someones memories. There's hardly a day goes by that I don't think about Phil at least once. If you've read my entry entitled, "Black Friday", you know who I'm talking about. Some people you will never forget, others, you wish you could. I have both, good and not so good , memories and I cherish them all. They say you never forget your first love, an

Prom!

So prom is Saturday. I really hate to say it but Im kinda excited. Im going with one of my best friends, Laura. We are so alike its amazing. She is also salutatorian and is going to pepperdine in the fall. And shes hot. Like REALLY hot. Like the-only-girl-I-could-ever-get-with-well-not-really-but-you-know-what-I-mean. A total catch. And she asked me! We really only knew each other for the past year but we totally click together. We went shopping for clothes together last week and got the hottest

whatever...

I usually try and avoid that retort, but at this point, I'm speechless. Quick rant about work and then we'll move on kay? So at work we're having some promotion for the month of May where if you spend $25 on QUALIFYING PRODUCTS (see list that is rather specific) you'll earn two free movie tickets to the upcoming Pirates of the Carribean III. Sounds simple enough right? In fact, what a deal really, cause, out here at least, it's $10 a ticket, so this way you get the tickets AND all the products y

History

Rewind.   The year is 1986* and two people, Suzzette and Manuel have just met and are falling in love with each other. They are currently in college and are, for a time, happy. After a few years together they decide to move in together and due to rather unfortunate circumstances, wind up living in Manuels fraternitys basement. To make a bit more money Manuel begins to sell cocaine to other students. Suzzette is unaware of this for a time and after the realization that things are pretty bad and

Goodbye to One of Histories Biggest Assholes

Jerry Falwell, right-wing hatemonger and religious fanatic, was found unconscious in the office from which he oversees the Culture War at Liberty University today. He died a short time later.   Falwell first came to prominence in the late 1970s when he lead a motley coalition of religious nuts, skinheads, neo-Nazis and slack-jawed yokels called the Moral Majority which handed Ronald "Bonzo" Reagen and George Herbert Skippy Walker Bush the 1980 elections and an unprecedented dynasty of politica

Well, here I go

I dont know if people are going to read this and honestly I dont care. Im doing this because Ive been told that I need to get my thoughts down on to paper, whether electronic or not. So here it is.   Facts about me? Well, I'm currently 17 years old and a junior in high school. I live with a 2 great friends of mine: Stephan and Aiden, for reasons Ill probably explain later. I hate my job (data entry at an urgent care) as most people do but it pays well at ten bucks an hour and beats something

The Sickness

Warning:::: Potentially Offensive Rant Ahead     Jerry Falwell is dead. For whatever reason, that news amuses some people. I think there's nothing to celebrate, and the mere fact that someone had the gutter mentality that it takes to celebrate that news on their blog is rather shocking, but then I guess there's not too much to be surprised about.   People love to hate. I don't have anything good to say about Falwell's twisted views on gay's and abortion. I know he said something stupid aft

The Mystery of the Vanishing Nip

When I first looked at my herb garden this year I discovered that my catnip had not over-wintered. This surprised me because catnip is a very hardy herb. Most forms of mint are. So I replanted it a little bit ago. The day after I planted it I noticed it looked like someone had trampled it. Several pieces were broken and it had fallen over. I started wondering whether there was some mysterious disease in my soil or whether the cinder blocks that surround my herb garden were toxic in some wa

Prescott, AR

Don't you hate it when you're traveling and you get to some place that barely has cell service. Kind of between towers. That's Prescott, Arkansas. When I arrived yesterday I couldn't get a signal, so internet access was haphazard at best. So, I slept. Good thing, too, because I'm heading into the Metroplex this morning. Fuel in Irvine, delivery in Fort Worth, and a hell of a lot of four wheelers buzzing about paying attention to no one but themselves and the person sending them a text message, w

A Stupid Mistake

Last week, I did something incredibly stupid that resulted in me spending a few bucks. I'll start at the beginning.   It was a nice late afternoon so I took my laptop out onto the porch to work on a story one of my authors sent me. I got myself set up with everything that I use outside, a chair, something to drink, a bottle with water to put cigarettes in, laptop and a small table to work on. In case your wondering, yes, I have a wireless network set up, not that I need it work on stories. I a
