    Upcoming Events Reminder

    By Valkyrie

First, I'd like to wish all our American members a very Happy Thanksgiving!  I will be spending the day at my aunt's, stuffing my face with turkey and all the sides   I'd be perfectly happy with a plate full of stuffing and gravy, though.  🤤 I am thankful for everyone who makes this site as awesome as it is!  I'm also thankful for everyone who participates in site events, such as the anthologies and other contests run throughout the year.     Speaking of site events, we have two

Is is Friday yet?

I seriously need Friday to be here already.   The week feels so long, but apparently time is moving slowly only to me. This girl I work with says its going fast. In a way it is. It's just going slow to me because I'm dreading stuff and wish it were over already.   So tired this morning. Ever had trouble sleeping because you were so hungry but too damned lazy to walk downstairs to the fridge? Yeah, that was me last night. A major lazy ass. Anyway, at 7 AM I had to take my sister to the bus

How To Waste 15 Minutes Of Your Life

Oh yes… another one of my ranting blogs. But this time it isn’t so much of a rant, as it is a realization. Ok, it is a rant at first, and I sound really needy, whiney, and bitchy, but so be it. I’m a little sleep deprived right now so it may not all flow together or be coherent, but that’s just another reason you should stop reading right now This could take a while, and will most likely be really long. I pity the fool who may actual waste part of his/her life reading this whole thing.   To s

I think kurt might just dis-own me

hehehe...I asked Kurt a question a few days ago and got a fairly straight answer...they wanted more.   the next question I asked him got a resounding "Not Sci-fi"   the part he is going to laugh about, when Kurt said they wanted more, I told him "I'm not going to start another story till IFLM is done...the part where he might dis-own me...it's Sci-fi   this is just a few words strung together, Kurt hasn't even seen it yet; heck, he might make me get a second editor for this one...lol

13 is sometimes an unlucky number

I guess 13 really is an unlucky number sometimes. Yesterday I had 13 kittens. Today I have 12.   Pretty Kitty Kitty's third baby, the little black and white girl, died last night. She didn't have a great start, being born a full day and a half after her siblings. She didn't seem to be able to nurse--probably because she was weaker than the other two kittens and they would push her away--not because they were trying to, but just by moving around and being bigger and stronger. She was hun

Fifth of November

Remember, remember the fifth of November, The gunpowder, treason and plot, I see of no reason why gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot.     In 1604 a group of disaffected Catholics decided that they had a belly full of Protestant King James.   One Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Parliament and King James with many kegs of gunpowder. It didn't work out and Fawkes was executed but November fifth has been an unofficial holiday in Great Britain and many countries in the Commonwealth ever

Once upon a Time

Once upon a time there was a site....it was a quaint little site with high quality stories and high quality authors. This site was run by one woman, and she worked hard to make it a site everyone could enjoy. There was no forum, and no blogs, but there were beautiful pages and nice layouts. It was obvious that the owner of the site cared greatly for her authors and her readers. One of the best aspects of her site was the lack of any political discussion. There was none to be found, and life was

Sunday is such a bitch

I hate Sunday's. It's the worst day of the whole entire week, ok, maybe not as bad as Monday. Or maybe it IS worse than Monday, because at least once Monday comes, you know you're well on your way to Friday, but with Sunday, you're waiting for the week to start with nervus anticipation. And let me tell you, I get the pre-week jitters and anxiety. It doesn't help that Mondays are one of my worst days with work in the morning and three back to back classes at night. And I commute. It blows.   R

Why knotme?

My current (03 Nov 06) Personal Statement says I'm "partly out". I was almost fully out before I moved to Hawaii. I felt no hurry to come out again after I moved here, so I dragged my feet. Gay Authors has me reconsidering. This blog for instance. I've restricted it to members. While there's no particular reason for a guest to read it, I do regret forcing members to log in before reading. Also, because I'm not comfortable telling all of my new neighbors about my blog, I can't always ask a neighb

Calling all cat people... (pics are in)

Ok, all you cat people out there... Ever hear this one?   My cat Pretty Kitty Kitty just had her babies--finally. She had 2--a yellow boy and a black kitten whose sex is yet to be determined. She had them in a box under my dining room table, right near where I usually sit when I am downstairs. She had them accompanied by Sweetie and Peep--two of Marina's babies who are now 6 months and a year and a half old. They were in the box with her the whole time.   Ok, so far not so strange (e

I Finally Made It!

Well, I finally made it to my new apartment! It was quite an ordeal, with lots and lots of problems, but I'm pretty much all settled in and have my internet service now. My cable/internet provider was a pain in the ass to deal with, because the previous tenant here never cancelled their account before moving out, and they had an outstanding balance, so they wouldn't set up my account. That was totally stupid, because it's not like that was my problem, and I shouldn't be made to suffer for some o

Hubble Space Telescope to get Onsite Service Call

Hubble mission will be devilishly complex Kelly Young for NewScientist.com news service 01 November 2006 Source Link     The space shuttle's final flight to upgrade the Hubble Space Telescope will be one of its most complex yet, featuring five spacewalks and some quick bolt changes usually reserved for the pit stops of car races.   On Tuesday, NASA announced to great fanfare that it would send a shuttle to service Hubble as early as May 2008. If the mission were successful, Hubble would

getting there

It's been a week since I heard about Grandma, and I think I have gone through every emotion you can think of in the last week. Heck, I've been so scatter-brained, I couldn't even focuse long enough to comment on any of the anthology stories...well, I held up long enough to post one, but that was about it.   Things are starting to get back to a point where I can function again, at least for now, I am hoping I can get back to a point where I can write again soon, but it doesn't look verry pro

Random Chatter

Well the Anthology was a smash, and I'm not too surprised...there's a lot of great talent here, and hopefully they'll get the notice they deserve soon enough, especially Camy, Greame, Dark Shadow and Birdsofafeather.....to me they're the three best efiction writers we have, and it's almost and injustice that they aren't moved up to Shared Hosted. Cjames is really good too, and the more he writes, I'm sure the better he'll get. So anyway I went to CRVboy and posted a reply on the politics forum

"At Random"

The following poem isn't mine, but I did think it was special when I read it. This poem goes out to a few people in my life right now, but there's one person that I'm hoping will read this and understand it's for him.     Joe (Who is sad to see bad things happen to good people)

too disoriented for a title

Well I'm sure no one is surprised to hear that I'm swearing off drinking on another Sunday morning. Although it had been several weeks. It was someone's birthday, so we did this whole thing with a limo and a VIP room at some really nice club. Honestly, I was sort of uncomfortable, because I hate clubs, I don't do dancing, and I'm used to hanging out in complete dives. But we had a host named Rico (hehe) who showed us to our little private area, and then we had a waitress who kept coming back and

plot element vs endorsement

A friend and fellow author that I have a great deal of respect and admiration for is having a crisis of confidence. I will not name him but I too have suffered from this type of criticism. Some people can not tell a plot element from an endorsement.   When a murder occurs in a story, is the author endorsing murder?   When drug use happens in a story, is the author glorifying it?   Silly questions?   As authors, I believe that the interesting stories are told on the edge.
