With effective writing, our characters should always try to show, and not tell, the reader how they are feeling. Verbal expressions are the simplest and most direct way, like stuttering or announcing things. But, there are certain actions and reactions in the body, which are even more efficient at conveying a character's feelings. I've decided to give you a couple of opposite feelings to work with.
Here are physical clues for you to use portraying your character's state of being. Feel

I know a lot of people have been looking forward to the release of the Fall Anthology. Luckily, the wait is over! Eleven stories have now been released for your enjoyment. I hope you find something you enjoy and don't forget to leave the author's a review to let them know what you think of their work! Thank you to all the Authors and their teams, the Anthology Proof Team for giving the stories a final polish, and Mann Ramblings for the Anthology banner! A special thank you to Valkyrie who took o
I hope you all enjoyed the last Improve & Encourage feature, because it's time for another one. These features are meant to both provide feedback to authors and, similar to story reviews, point out stories that readers might not otherwise have found. It's similar to a review, in that the person doing the critique tells you what they liked about the story, but it differs in that they also provide constructive criticism. Each author signed up to participate, and sign up's are still open! Thes
Hello! Welcome back to Tech Tuesdays! Starting today, we are planning on bringing this feature back for you every Tuesday. Most of them will be short but will highlight either existing features or coming features.
Today, we will be going over the use of the spoiler tags. These are built right into the editor and should be used to hide information that would otherwise spoil someone's enjoyment. This often applies to the big twists you see in books, movies, tv shows, games, etc
Did you have a chance to read Graeme's short story, Street Life? This was originally posted as part of the 2008 spring anthology, and it's an emotional journey of surprisingly short length but with great impact. Make sure you share your thoughts below, but of course, first we have my interview with Graeme!

Did you catch Monday's blog featuring Comicfan's story, The Life of Seeon, as this month's Signature Feature? If not, go check it out and then download a copy of the graphic to share in your signature if you want to show your love for his story. If Monday's blog wasn't enough to move this story to the top of your TBR list, maybe today's excerpt will!

This month we're changing it up a little and doing a feature for one of our Signature authors--and resident prompt guru--Comicfan. The story he chose to be featured was The Life of Seeon. Make sure you check it out (I bet those reviews will help you decide to read it sooner rather than later!) and then download the signature graphic below if you want to share you love for Comicfan's story.

Wow, another week in the bag! I know a lot of our American friends are busy getting ready for US Thanksgiving this coming week, but lets take a look back at the GA News Blog for the past week and see if there is something that you are thankful for early .
On Monday, Renee brought us a review by @Puppilull for the Feature Story this week; Personal Banking by @Refugium. Good comments and feedback to entice you to take on another story to read.

I've received quite a few editing tips from our membership. Today, we're going to look at some provided by JayT. Enjoy!
There are three common editing issues that I come across frequently. They are punctuation (ie. missing commas, misused commas, and dialogue punctuation), misused words (ie nauseous instead of nauseated, then/than misused, they're, their, there misused), and sentences that don't read correctly and interrupt the flow of the story (they can be fragmented s
Well, it's the start of a new week, and for today's schedule, we're bringing you Puppilull's review of Personal Banking by Refugium. Featured story days are a great way to highlight one of the many stories that can be found in GA Stories. With so many stories, it's easy for a single story to get lost in the shuffle. If you're reading a story that you would like to do a blog review and bring attention to, PM me (Renee). Now, onto the review. Hopefully you enjoy Puppilull's review enough to go che
Another week has passed here at the GA News Blog and in the true fashion of not having Renee here, I forgot to feature our Friday Weekly Prompts. Many of you got to see it, but apologies to you who did not. Luckily you can still see it here and participate during the week. Lots going on and lots of new chapters from our Signature/Promising and all authors on site as well!
On Monday, Cia introduced us to the November Can't Stop Reading feature. This month it is @Graeme's Street Life.

November is here, and this month I wanted to feature something different. There are a lot of stories on the site with themes that involve some heavy subjects that can really make you think, but one of the best of those is an older story that many current readers probably haven't found since it was posted for a 2008 anthology themed "Living in the Shadows".

Renee is off, so I will be helping out for the next few Weekly updates. Before I start, if I make any mistakes, blame @Valkyrie . I've had quite a few messages asking about the return of Ask An Author, so here it is: Ask An Author 2.0. It won't be exactly like Dark always did it, but hopefully you enjoy getting the answers you've asked just as much as in the past. One major difference is, at least to start, we're only going to look at two authors at a time. Without further ado, here's the first Ask An Author 2.0. Today we're going to hear from Hudson Bartholomew and Timothy M.

I'd like to thank all of the authors who participated in the Halloween Short Story Contest! There were a lot of great entries and I'm sure it was hard to choose who to vote for. How fast these months go! Is it nearly Halloween where you live? Are you ready for some tricks or treats? Or maybe you celebrate All Hallow's Eve another way? Or... maybe the whole thing freaks you out, and you'd rather read a story set firmly in the present? Maybe a little second-chance? If so, I hope you enjoyed Mitchelll's Mr. Brightside! Don't forget to share your thoughts in a comment below, but my first we have my interview with him!

What a fun set of words that mean the same thing and follow a basic pattern: rampillion, rampillian, or rapscallion. There is a racehorse who's run in the UK and Mauritius named Rampillion I. But I think it's Shakespeare who uses it the best in Henry IV, Part 2. Falstaff's Page speaking to the Hostess of the Tavern: "Away you scullion! you pamillian! you fustilarian! I'll tickle your catastrophe."
Some people use the term rascallion instead, but they mean the same thing. Rascallion comes from the Old French word rascaille, meaning rabble or a mob.
Lots of Mississippi and Louisiana are so swampy, in the summer, it's like living in a ranarium. We have every possible species of frog from big old bullfrogs to tiny colorful tree frogs. They all sing like they are happy... ALL NIGHT LONG. Sometimes it's like they compete with the cicadas to see which species can raise the most hell.
You mean like on GA?
It's been there since the fundraiser started. Thanks to all of you for helping. "Momicality" has been overwhelmed by the concern and the love we have all shown. It's completely floored her that he had this totally other life that she only kind of knew existed, and that we all loved her son as much as we did. She has found small things in his room that now make sense, one of them is a weird name that she wouldn't have known but now knows mens the worlds to soooo many.
If you're looking to visit a ranarium, there is one in Monteverde, Costa Rico. Except it is actually the Frog Pond Ranario in Santa Elena. Seems to be unique in being the only ranarium in the world.
