People are reading and enjoying this story. It's just that it's a little (I really mean a lot) kinky and instead of posting, they're dealing with these new found emotions around dominance and submission in a self-absorbed way.

You'd think wouldn't you. I wrote this story to explore just that... why the hell do otherwise highly intelligent and confident people stay in a relationship where they are abused? I don't know whether I have nailed it in this story but I think I have at least found one way.

 

I wrote the story primarily to explore the dynamics of an abusive relationship... the BDSM kind of came as an afterthought and then took over. This was Sooooo fun to write. I don't even care if no one reads it although I have to admit to being surprised and gratified when someone (you and Cia to be exact Connor) actually comment that they like it... if like is the right word

Well personally I take someone calling me kinky as a compliment Life is full of repression, I want as little of it as possible! I can admit to liking the darker side of sex, and in stories it is just fun. I like the way that you write this story, abuse can be insidious, especially when couched in a bdsm lifestyle. There are lots of twists and turns and as well as examining the psychological effects of abuse of all sorts on all sorts there is plenty of kinky sex left.

Thank gawd, Kain finally told Nye that he's still in love with him. At least now Nye has a choice. With only Adam around, Nye likely would just go with it rather than be alone.

Thank you for sticking with me even when the story is hard for you to read. Kane is a good guy... but he is a little too good... in that he still wants to give Nye the respect and support of letting him make his own decisions.... really he should have been able to see from that chapter that Nye really isn't capable of making those decisions right now. They are both going to live to regret that.

 

I think Nye wants to be with Kane... he want to leave Adam but he's bound... whether that's by a misguided sense of loyalty or genuine love, who knows. He really should have taken the chance and got out right now.

Thank you. That's exactly it. That's what the story is all about... dynamics... how and why people feel and do.

 

Adam is damaged, fatally flawed and unable to feel in the way 'normal' people feel. He thinks that what he feels for Nye is love but is it? And if so can it show him how to have an actual relationship instead of just another slave. Love is about making sacrifices for the one you love and at the moment Adam is completey unable to do that.

 

As for Nye... is what he is feeling for Adam really love? Or is it conditioning? Nye will sacrifice but love is also about having respect for yourself and being free to be your own person and at the moment he is wholly inacpable of that. Can you be in love with somone who controlly every part of your life? When you are in that position are you capable of feeling any real emotion?

 

This story is mostly about exploring the human mind, emotions and relationships... the sex and violence are an important part of the story becuase they give the characters opportunity to explore the deepest and most primal elements of their psyches and relationships.. but they are not really what the story is about.

Wow Nephy...that Adam is a right bastard! I think that this is going to be a bad bad week for Nye but I wonder what Kane is going to do? Oh yeas... lots of excitement coming up in the next couple of chapters. And Kane really comes into his own in the second half of the book Mir takes up the standard too.

Demon from the pits of hell - yes, that works for me as fas as Adam is concerned. About the only thing he's good for is land fill.

 

These last two chapters have been especially horrific.

 

Adam is obviously taking Kane to the dungeon. Everything's looking rather bleak right now. That's what I like about your stories, Neph, just when you think things couldn't get worse...they get worse.

 

So hopefully Mir tries to follow-up with Kane on the party cancellation. Obviously she won't be able to reach him. Then she has to decide what to do. Someone has to lead the calvery. The only other possibility is that dude at the club that befriended Nye.

There are lots of possibilities. You should know Connor... you can't take anything for granted in my stories... unexpected twists at every turn. The next chapter is my absolute favourite and it is a real turning point. Maybe even a bit of light relief... well as light as this story gets.

That was certainly the most erotic chapter, for me anyways. Gulp! The description of Kane's body was very sensual.

 

Interesting the things we find out about ourselves...providing we're willing to look.

 

Adam must have been going insane with lust - watching Nye dominate the one man who could come between him and Nye.

 

Ok, so Nye's into this. Is it just to please Adam? Frankly, I don't think so. Nye does admit that part of him wants to command respect the way Adam does. He wants to be seen and be more than Adam's toy.

Yeah Nye's into it. One of the things I am trying to convey is that there is a lot more to the BDSM world than just hurting people. This story isn't really about that, it's only the setting and I really don't want anyone to think this is the way it always is. This story is about examining abuse... what it is, why it happens, why people put up with it and what it's effects are.

 

Adam was abused by Lian who was himeslf abused by his captors and 'trainers'. This is a very extreme and highly illegal end of the spectrum. On the other end of the spectrum there are healthy relationships and very rewarding experiences.

 

I wanted to make sure that people are clear on that and that not everything that happens to Nye is unpleasant. If it were he would have broken free a long time ago.

 

Adam is screwed up... simple as. He is incapable of having a loving relationship with anyone but he is trying to create a facade of one with Nye. However it's not about giving it's all about taking, it's not about sharing it's about control. Adam is so damaged he is incapable of giving himself, of making sacrifices and therefore incapable of love. (or is he:) )

 

Part of Nye's basic personality is that he is very loyal and giving. He genuinely wants to please and thrives off attention which is why he couldn't maintain the relationship with Kane when he was neglected, even though he still loved Kane.

I just loved the last few chapters. The fact that Nye has now faced the truth of his "relationship" with Adam is wonderful, though poor Kane. I think that finding that he has Nye's love back again, that they will be together is going to set a fire under him the likes that Adam has never seen. Retribution is coming I hope, not just revenge!

There's a fire lit right enough and it is going to burn bright. There are some shocking things to come and some... I hope... genuine surprises. Maybe this is a spoiler but I can promise you that there will be retribution but no revenge... as such.

Just when I thought Nye was going to escape...Adam shows up and only Kane gets away. And Luke got shot. And Nye thinks he got shot. But maybe he couldn't move because Like's body was on top of him.

 

Adam knows he's failed, though. Of course he'll blame Luke for that. Adam's arrogance really shows in this chapter. He's so self-deluded when it comes to his own "power". He truly believes he can do what he wants without consequences, even taking human life.

 

So I've been pondering the difference between retribution and revenge. I suppose the main difference (without running to the dictionary) is that retribution is justifiable...the culprit is getting what he deserves. When we humans are acting from base emotions, I wonder if we can make such a distinction.

 

Luke's remarks made me sad. His "this is the only life I know, I have nothing to go to anyway" stuff really saddened me. It reminded me of Dickens' Tale of Two Cities...."It is a far better thing I do now than I have ever done..."

I think the difference between retribution and revenge is that retribution is justice, sometimes natural justice and is not always planned and deliberate. Revenge is.

 

Adam is totally up himself. He certainly believes that he can do anything he wants... and he does it. However, his bubble is about to burst. Kane doesn't just sit on his thumbs. There will be retribution but...

 

And I think you will also find that Adam is not irredeemable

 

And there will be other characters introduced who underline the sheer hopelessness of the situation.

 

And things go to hell before there is any kind of resolution.

 

And then there's that collapse and the desperate race against time... and Lian... Lian has an addiction which comes out strongly very soon and shocks the hell out of Adam

 

It's far from over.

I think that Lian is addicted to death, honestly. The rush that people can get when they have "power" over life and death. I think that is something that doctors feel in some measure, at least when they are able to save people. Probably what keeps them slogging in a very high stress job day after day.

 

I agree with Nephy on her definition on revenge vs. retribution. I think that revenge is often used by a party that believes they are wronged...case in point, when Adam kidnaps Kane and has Nye torture and top him. That can only be viewed as revenge imo, against Kane for trying to take Nye away, and against Nye for having loved Kane, in any way, shape or form. Knowing that would drive a personality like Adam's crazy and most likely allow him to think this is the best way to "pay" them back.

 

Retribution on the other hand, that is justice for wrongs that are so heinous that action cannot be denied, they must be stopped. Again, in any way, shape or form. I think that most acts of retribution fit the crime, but don't stoop to the same level, if that makes any sense. I could not see Kane kidnapping or using Adam for payback for what was done to him, I do see him kicking the shit out of him and putting him out of the "business" however. That is the difference in my mind.

Absolutely. I see retribution in even more abstract terms as everyone getting what they deserve, good and bad, not necessarily at the hands of the person wronged. Justice being done I suppose. There is retribution in this story but possibly... no probably not in the way you would expect.

 

As for Lian... he is not so much addicted to death as pain... it's his speciality, his life, his modus operandi... and there will be more of it.

Lian is so twisted and dark, it's like he's this great black hole that craves pain, he constantly sucks and pulls it in, but is never satisfied, he'll always be eternally empty. He's just an emotionally bankrupt individual, a character with zero viabilty for redemption. I see another glimmer in Adam that perhaps he isn't quite irredeemable but I still don't like him. Even if he somehow helps Kane rescue Nye I think Kane needs to put him on the ground. I'm sure anyone trained by Lian would be able to take quite a bit of punishment...but hitting Adam emotionally might work. Sigh...I was reading Weeping Lily and enjoying your writing so much, it got me thinking about Chains too. I hope that the next chapter update is soon!

Ask and I am answered, sweeet! I loved this chapter. It's a bit anti-climactic from what the last few chapters have been, and I say that in the best sense possible. I don't think my heart could take another stress fest I truly think that Jon has been on the cusp for some time, his new willingness to go out on a limb to protect Ben is a good example of the caring nature that wasn't broken from him, no matter what he may think. He is not irredeemable.

 

 

You really went more in depth into the bdsm lifestyle in this chapter than in ones where you described activities, imo. You got into the meat of why people do the things they do. Some are masochists, some are submissives, some are simply given no choice. Master/slave relationships are truly varied and complex. I know this story isn't a good example of a healthy d/s relationship but I am very glad that you spoke to some of the psychological drives and affects that such sexual proclivities entail.

 

Great job with this chapter and the story overall so far! I can't wait to experience the ending!
