Mark Arbour's Next Genre

A thread in the lounge triggered the thought in me, what should Mr. Arbour's next genre be when he finishes the CAP series?

 

I am thinking we need a gay Butch Karp (Bob Tannebaum), Mitch Rapp (Vince Flynn) or Harry Bosch (Michael Connelly).

 

They are great mystery/action novels.

 

Maybe even a gay Jim Chee (Tony Hillerman).

I'd love to see Mark tangle with the classics (I know he's more than familiar with classic french from old conversation).

 

Despite my conservative outlook, I always enjoyed Victor Hugo and Alexander Dumas (I read them both as a kid and have collected as much of their work as I could). They were grand authors, who could incorporate the mystery/thriller/suspense genre along with epic romanticism into a powerful genre. (I will never forget the suffering of Jean Valjean or comradeship of the Musketeers.)

 

If Mark ever seeks to write in that type of story, I will without hesitation take on the role of beta reader with the utmost speed.

I'd like to see Mark do a story based in the Roman Empire or Classical Greece.

It might be interesting for Mark to write about a French family.

 

Maybe Mark could do a sequel to On the Mark, but one that picks up in the latter half of the 80's so we can skip over the rough spot that Mark's alluded to having circa late 1980.

Can you imagine how much fun Mark could have writing about a New York City girl with an oh-so-sophisticated blonde perm, a bossy tomboy from a blended family, a wacky Japanese-American artist with a penchant for dibbly cool fashion and Ring-Dings, a shy girl forced to wear pigtails and Mary Jane shoes by her dad, and a blond vegetarian Palo Alto girl obsessed with saving the world from pollution?

I actually have my next genre sort of mapped out. I'm thinking of doing a story based during the reign of Louis XIV. I've got a great twist for the "Man in the Iron Mask" legend.

Do you read Vince Flynn, Michael Connelly, Robert Tannenbaum, T. Parker Jefferson? Your style reminds me a lot of them.

I vote for the Ancient Roman or Greek or even Egyptian story... While I will probably read whatever Mark writes next, I can say I have never been a huge fan of French Literature, love French philosophy, religion, or history but not so much the literature, as far as the French kings; well we all sort of know how that ended up...

I think you'll like it. I'm too busy with the two I'm working on now to think too much about it, though.

I'm totally with you.

 

All those orgies should be totally up Mark's street!

That said he's never needed to revert to Roman times to include one or two of those in his stories!
