It's killing me that I can't quite remember this story, so I'm finally giving in and asking for help!

The characters are in high school.  One of the boys has a very obvious crush on the more popular boy and I think they get in some kind of public argument or fight about it at school.  Then the popular one has to do some kind of community service at an antique store, where the other boy works too.  He's an artist, but I think he helps out at the store too.  An older gay couple run the store and kind of mentor the one boy on coming out.  One of them changes their hair color a lot.  At the end I think they both come out as a couple at school.

I've been looking everywhere but I just can't seem to remember enough to make it actually searchable.

Hey Jenash,

Do you remember any of the characters names? Or anything about the author that you can remember? Male? Female?

How long ago did you read the story? How long was it, was it completed?

Sorry for all the questions, but when I was reading your post I was trying to wrack my brain trying to figure out what story it was. I read the majority of high school stories, and different parts of your post ring a bell, but if I knew a little bit more maybe I could remember.

I wish I could remember more specific details, but I think it's been at least a couple years since I last read it.  The only character name I can think of is Zeke, but I can't say for sure that I'm not confusing it with another story.  I do think the author was male though.

All I can remember is different scenes from the story.  The popular boy was really good at english, so one of the guy's that owned the shop had him editing a story he had written about him and his partner.  It was their story that was helping him figure out his own coming out, and to sort out his feelings for the artist boy. Also there was another older, college-aged guy who had a one-sided crush on the artist boy, and constantly got into arguments with the popular boy.

Damn, that doesn't sound familiar at all. lol

I think the only Zeke character I read about was a blind boy and he spelled his name Zeek. The story is called "Lovers Blind" by NightOwl88, who's a great author, btw.

Well, you mentioned a male author and the one that really sticks out is Dom Luka. I know he wrote tons of high school fics, and personally, I think he's one of the best authors on here.

Do you remember how many chapters the story was? Oh, was it a completed story?

I could ask around to the people I know who have been on the site awhile.

Yeah that's the one :)

And to all those who deride Nifty as a repository of 100% trash there are some excellent stories there - this is one of 'em.

You just need to know how to navigate the directories to find the good stuff :P

I couldn't agree more, Zombie. There have been fantastic stories on Nifty and in fact, there are quite a few Nifty authors on GA now. =)

Yeah, well, as good as some of the authors may be, the site itself is disorganized, flashes porn which is nsfw or to a parent with kids often peeking over their shoulder, and some of their categories and content? *shudders* There can be great stories over there, but finding them is a dangerous prospect.

Hopefully you all either helped Jenash find the story, or others like it to enjoy!!

Holy shit, Cia, you are so right! The first time someone told me about NIfty and I went on the site I couldn't X out of it fast enough! I wasn't sure which of my kids was hovering around but I wasn't taking any chances, lol. Yes, definitely nsfw. I only look at the college and high school sections, and I know in the high school section there's no porn, so that's safe. lol But yes, there are many cringeworthy categories over there for sure.

I've been lucky - I have found many terrific stories there and have become friendly with a lot of the authors of these stories.

But yes, as far as class goes and the way these two sites are set up, GA is, hands down, the classier site. =)

Summer Of Change by Virtual Insanity

Omg yes!  That's it!  Thank you so much, it was driving me mad.  There's no way I would have found it again on nifty.  Also, wow way off on the names lol.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

As for nifty, I agree it can be a huge mess to go through, and possibly scarring at times lol, but I do believe I read my first DomLuca story there :)  Thank goodness we have resources like GA now, though.

Not Sufficient for Work, lol

If you type in I think it's www.niftyguiltypleasures.com or www.nifty.com, I'm not sure which, make sure THERE ARE NO CHILDREN AROUND!!!! And if you are at work, there are no SUPERVISORS/BOSSES/SUITS/CO-WORKER/HOMOPHOBES around. lol Seriously, there are half-naked boys all over that site. ;)

 Thanks :) I only use my laptop at home or iphone - never at work when I visit GA (or other m/m story sites) but thanks for the warning :great:

Lol, I think if you go into Nifty on your phone, your phone will blow up. lol J/K, but there will be half-naked boys all over your phone - just beware! haha

The first time someone on another site (long before I found GA), told me about Nifty and I typed in the address and I couldn't find the damn "X" button quick enough. I think my hands were shaking! I think I just slammed down the lid on my laptop and hastily looked around to make sure there weren't any kids lurking around. Omg, my heart was beating so fast, it was like I got caught watching porn or something. lol So from then on, I knew I had to make sure none of my kids OR THEIR FRIENDS were around when I went into that site. :)

Yeah, the few times I've read stories reco'ed on Nifty there were direct link listings, or searches where I've had to check cross-poster's stories from the mod queue. But still... yeah, I try not to access that stuff. Certainly not on the shared computer my kids use, unless I clear the history.

OH, and nsfw is just 'not safe for work'.

Direct story links like this are safe though. And *coughs* why would peeps be accessing gay story sites at work anyway? :P Plus it's not like GA stories don't venture beyond the chaste and platonic .

Not Safe for Work - damn, I meant to write that! lol Cut me some slack - I wrote that at almost 4am. lol But seriously, yes, I meant 'safe', I don't know where the hell I came up with 'sufficient'. ;)

Well, duh, they're ASLEEP! lol

Sorry 'bout that Slytherin. I did mean "safe" but when I was writing it, my hands just typed in "sufficient" unbeknownst to me. ;) They have a mind of their own sometimes. Especially when I'm 'reprimanding' an author for making lots of mistakes. lol

And if I may ask, why Slytherin and not Griffindor? :)
