Former Member Posted November 6, 2014 Author Posted November 6, 2014 If you'd like to see the Bright flame of my Lyric 8-6-8-6 poem, have a look in the gallery or hit the link. I suppose I should have posted it earlier, before AC thought that it was the sun. Sorry about that, AC, I hope seeing the setting gives a better sense to the poem now. It's beautiful, and at least i got the bare trees correct! And no need to say sorry, because in poetry there is no right or wrong interpretations, just images to see and feel, imo But I'm glad you shared, as it's a beautiful picture! 1
Irritable1 Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 (edited) I'm going to say Mem Drive before I go over to the Gallery... Edit: WRONG. Oh well. Edit2: And I do think it's wrong, AC, because I had a very specific spot in mind. I have to re-image. Edited November 6, 2014 by Irritable1 2
Ron Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 (edited) I'm going to say Mem Drive before I go over to the Gallery... Edit: WRONG. Actually, Irri, it was over in Everett. I think you're familiar with the city, if not the location. Edited November 6, 2014 by Ron 2

ColumbusGuy Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 (edited) AC, I suck at poetry, probably lyrics too--and I don't think this fits the 'first morning' theme, but here goes, just for you: If I'm down, will you be my wings? I can't do it alone... If I drift, will you be my roots? See, I'm scared I'll be lost... With your love, I think I can fly-- With you, my heart's at home. Cornflower-blue, and shining blond, These of you, to me sing... During the day, I'm your shade, Summer sweet, you to me... I'll be your roots, you be my wings, Sucky, but you may recognize the inspiration. Edited November 7, 2014 by ColumbusGuy 5

For the readers of your Jay and Miles series, they will instantly recognize the 'voice' of this poem as coming from the teenage Miles. I love it, i hope you roll it into an upcoming installment. Maybe we can expect Miles to recite it directly to the boy with the cornflower-blue eyes....hint, hint 1
Irritable1 Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I really like this one, it hovers right on the edge of rhyme throughout. You know there's a Kate Bush song, Cornflower Blue? I wonder if one could use that tune... 2
ColumbusGuy Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 (edited) Irrri, thanks for the compliment--guess I'll have to look up Kate Bush since I have no clue who she is! I stopped listening to radio when Dr. Demento went off...and mostly buy cds from no later than the early 80s New Wave era. Most of my stuff goes back to medieval music by way of folk, classic Rock and 19th century ballads and Civil War era songs. AC, I guess I'm stuck...wonder if Jay can write a poem? Oh course Jay can write a poem. Anyone can write a poem! (how's that for teacherly encouragement )
ColumbusGuy Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 (edited) Oh course Jay can write a poem. Anyone can write a poem! (how's that for teacherly encouragement ) I'm encouraged all to hell. You're talking to a guy with no rhythm here--once alliteration, rhyme and the Saxon caesura fell out of use, I was doomed. Can't dance, can't sing--if I practice for days on end, you might recognize the tune I'm trying to blow out of a recorder or beat out of a piano. As the old saying about Jack Benny's violin playing says: 'it sounds like a cat being stepped on by a horse', so too my singing is likened to a pair of cats mating. My lyric will be in a future chapter, just have to find the right moment. Edited November 8, 2014 by ColumbusGuy 1

craftingmom Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 So another attempt at the poetry prompts (don't think I can manager the meter one--iambic pentameter requires way to much thought right now). Syllables, I can manages those! Something to get the words flowing this morning (okay, well, afternoon now), hopefully! I'm Awake (sort of) https://www.gayauthors.org/story/craftingmom/attemptsatpoetry/2 1

Irritable1 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 (edited) Irrri, thanks for the compliment--guess I'll have to look up Kate Bush since I have no clue who she is! It was Kate Wolf, I was just listening to it. Fair warning though, this goes from pretty stills of actual cornflowers, to random straight couples from... I don't even know... the Twilight universe? You'll need to minimize after 0:55. I think the guitar music itself is lovely for Jay and Miles though, it's very 70s. Kate Wolf was an influential folk artist from the Bay Area who died in 1986. ColumbusGuy Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Man, I am totally stunned by that song--I can see why it would be perfect for Jay's Song. I am surprised that I've never heard of Kate Wolf since there are a lot of folk musicians I like from that era: Judy Collins, Joan Baez, Buffy Saint-Marie...not to mention the Carpenters and the Kingston Trio. There are too many to mention but I hate leaving anyone out like Melanie and Carly Simon. I have to see when this was written--maybe the title inspired Mikey, but I think more likely is that he finds the song after doing the poem. He's probably like me and has no clue how to match up words and music. I'm adding this to my 450+ playlist for home listening, it's got everything from folk to comedy to Bowie and Die Prinzen..and even a few old Yiddish songs! I'm all over the plae with my music tastes except for modern urban crap or modern jazz and metal. 2
JamesSavik Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 (edited) The Riddle of Me I’m not weak because I’m gentle, I’m in a tempest but I’m not tossed, I’m not quite because I’m shy, I’m not a loser because I lost. Things aren’t what they seem with me, I just want to love and be free I am the enigma that you see Bound by chains you can not see Bearing scars that will not heal Wondering what it is I feel Wondering what it is that’s real I’m not lost because I wander, I’m not found because I’m home. I’m not sad because I frown, I’m not happy when I’m a clown. Things aren’t what they seem with me, I just want to live and be free I am the enigma you see Bound by chains you can not see Bearing scars that will not heal Wondering what it is I feel Wondering what it is that’s real I’m by myself but I’m not alone, I’m alive but cold as stone, I’m broken but not shattered, Lost the only thing that mattered. Things aren’t what they seem with me, I just want to love and be free I am the enigma you see Bound by chains you can not see Bearing scars that will not heal Wondering what it is I feel Wondering what it is that’s real I’m alive but haven’t lived I’ve lost so much but I want to give The memory of your face Is my only saving grace I will be with you again Where there is no fear And no shadows fall. MrM Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 (edited) Here's one I might post later as a poem. I actually wrote it as lyrics to the instrumental linked to this.Joraan's Lament (The Memory Of Trees): For the music to go along with Joraan's Lament go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIpt_BIrIzM ‘There lives still in my mind a green kingdom of life A land filled with my kind All struck down in our strife Warm light sifts through the leaves In my memory of trees From the North to the South From the East To the West From Shae'non to Du'blon Was the Forest Av'lon Birds sang of life by the day Elves sang of love by the night In my memory of trees In my mind there yet lives This world lost to my eyes Through my tears I still see Emerald light shines down so true On my lost love that was once you Golden leaves fall down around you My lost love who has gone now Forever From the North to the South From the East to the West Verdant life burgeoned forth This green land of the blessed Ice winds fell from the sky Mortal men begged to die From the North to the South From the East to the West Our trees fell to our blades Keeping men from their test Smoke rose up to the gloom Av'lon fell to her doom Surrendered There lives still in my mind A long memory of trees My deathless eyes can still see What was swept by the tide From the North to the South From the East to the West My eyes see without aid Things that live on no more I still see them. I can see them...’ James that was gorgeous and just as sad and full of loss as mine. Its hard having lived so long and through so much. I can only hope it counts for something in the end. Puppilull Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Here is my attempt at poetry prompts #3-lyrics https://www.gayauthors.org/story/headstall/headstallspoetryprompts/7 My first thought when I read your poem was of a meeting of lovers, but then I started thinking about taking the opportunity to spend time with an elderly parent or relative. To me, it has a sense of needing to capture the moment, catching it before time moves on and all is lost. 2
