I have plucked chickens.  Not my favorite thing to do, but not the worst by a long shot.  A pan of hot water to dip the chicken in makes for easier plucking when you soak them for several seconds.

Nope.  I have had pet cats and dogs and crows, but not bears.  The crows were never confined, but hung around for a couple of years and we would feed them when I was a kid.
