On May 1st, the Irish Government published a five stage roadmap to ease restrictions in place due to covid-19. Each phase of the roadmap (every step is located three weeks apart) consists of a menu of options which will be considered by the Government as it gradually opens up economic and social activities.

The reopening of barbers and hairdressers is part of phase four of the roadmap, currently scheduled for July 20. This late opening is because hairdressing is not considered an essential service.

If there's a spike in covid-19 cases during any of the phases then some of the restrictions may be reimposed.

Barber shops here in SC were permitted to open again yesterday. I admit I think some things are moving more quickly than they ought. I don't believe in-house dining is safe and much as I would like a massage I will not be scheduling an appointment for one. However I was the barber's first client of the day. We wore masks and everything was sanitized prior to use so I felt comfortable. I was last there on Feb 25th, twelve weeks ago. I'm now sporting a nice neat military crewcut.
