The part where it turns to ice is always where I get hung up on whenever I think about moving further north.  Spikey and ice do not mix.  The sporadic ice storms we get here every couple years are MORE than enough.

I have not.  That was one series I never got into.  I always heard great things about it, especially back in the 90s when I was reading a lot of the big fantasy series of the time, but somehow just never picked one of those up.  I guess the tongue-in-cheek aspect of it didn't appeal to my teenage mind.
