As anyone paying attention to my random posts may have cottoned on, I've been using AI pretty heavy as an analysis tool lately.  Everything from "vibe coding" to complex user interface analysis.  The Genre post I made the other day shows a tiny part of a huge dashboard I've created with the AI doing all the programming for me.  It has sped things up in insane ways.

Any way, as we are preparing to convert to the new Invision Community 5.X version of the software, I am reviewing everything in the Stories App to help us both modernize and reduce confusion/complexity of our systems.  I asked the AI to review the user interface against current UI research and compare it against usage patterns for Boomers, Gen Z and Gen Alpha. With particular attention on making sure that things we add for the younger generation don't leave the older generation frustrated.

One of the big things the AI is pushing, which makes sense, is discoverability.  Which is to say, surfacing the right kind of story to people at the right time.  A lot of this will be powered by your own settings and reading behavior.

C. “Because you read…”

This is the simplest personalization pattern users understand.

Examples:

  • “Because you read Romance”
  • “Because you liked Mark Arbour”
  • “Because you read complete Fantasy stories”
  • “Because you follow this author”

@Mark Arbour, the AI has you in it's sights.  I'm not sure if this is good or bad. lol.

But when I used the AI to help on the Fandom's stuff, it also had enough data to select characters from stories from @DomLuka and  @Comicality

Dom Luka Dom Luka GA/author-specific central character where applicable.
Dom Luka Rory Recurring/related character tag where applicable.
Dom Luka Original Character Flexible tag for original figures in this author-specific fandom.
Gone From Daylight Justin GA-native major character tag where applicable.
Gone From Daylight Taryn GA-native recurring character tag where applicable.
Gone From Daylight Zero GA-native recurring character tag where applicable.
Gone From Daylight Comicality Original Character Flexible tag for original characters in the Gone From Daylight setting.

Anyway, I am leveraging the power of AI to make improvements on the site... even if I feel it may know a bit too much about us.

Good. Any business activity that isn’t embracing AI will soon be swept away on a tidal wave of change. It’s as transformative as the Industrial Revolution of the 18th+19th centuries - but quicker…

I'm not religious, but I think it's interesting that Pope Leo XIV named himself that precisely because of the similarity between AI and the Industrial Revolution. Specifically, he says it's as important to protect workers rights now in the face of AI as when Pope Leo XIII focused on that during the Industrial Revolution.

As for the actual topic at hand, this is a good use of AI. It's something it's very good at doing and it doesn't replace humans as much as give days for humans to build upon. What I'm not a fan of is using AI in creative fields because it feels like it almost steals from humans authors when it learns from their styles.
