So glad to see that things are finding a semblance of solid ground, it's way too early, but a lifeline has been tossed, no impending decisions to wade thru at the immediate moment, no doubt that they are coming. Jamie has the support he will truly need in the coming days. And it is critical he reaches out to Legal Aid, just to set the foundation, for any conflict/issues that may/might arise with his father. I found the following especially moving... Jordan was quiet for a long moment, eyes on me, not studying like Ari had earlier, but seeing. Like he already understood everything I hadn’t said out loud. When he finally spoke, it was soft. “You didn’t run because you were scared,” he said. “You ran because somewhere deep down, you already knew staying would mean losing parts of yourself you’d never get back.” My breath caught. Something in my chest shifted at that. He leaned forward, elbows on his knees. “You didn’t fail by leaving. You saved the part of you that could still feel. That could still hope. That takes more courage than most people ever manage.” ********************* Before I could respond, Luca cut in. “I know you mean well,” he said, glancing at Ari. His voice wasn’t defensive, it was calm, but final. “And I appreciate the offer. But Jamie’s not going anywhere. Not to a shelter, not to some program. He stays here.” Ari blinked, surprised by the firmness in his tone. But Luca didn’t stop. “I’ve been there,” he said, more quietly now. “I’ve been right where he is, bruised up, nowhere to go, no idea what came next. And I got out. But I did it alone. I had to. And I wouldn’t wish that kind of silence on anyone. Especially not him.” He turned to me then. Not to ask permission, not to make a speech. Just to look at me, and say it like it was already settled. “You’re not doing this alone. Not while I’ve got anything to give.” ************************************** I could not get the following from the last chapter out of my head, its importance will be defining in the longer run.... “Get up,” my dad barked, standing over me, his voice full of contempt, as a sharp kick hit me in the sternum. He didn’t even sound like the same person anymore. He was a stranger, a monster I didn’t recognize. And I was on the ground, small and powerless, with nowhere to run. I wanted to scream. To say something, anything, but my throat felt like it was full of broken glass. There was no way out of this. No escape. And all I could do was breathe, gasping for air, as everything I’d feared about myself and this family seemed to close in around me. The sharp crack of shattering ceramic rang out behind me, followed by the sound of my mother’s voice, no, screaming. Splitting through the house like a fire alarm. Time seemed to stall. My heart stuttered in my chest as I turned to see her face-to-face with my father, her hands shaking, her voice raw with fury and fear. She wasn’t holding back anymore. “You hit him!” she screamed, shoving at my dad’s chest with both hands. “You hit our son!” It was like watching something snap inside her. Years of silence, of backing down, of trying to keep the peace, it was all gone. She was on fire now, standing between me and him, her whole body shaking as she held her ground, pushing him back. And to my disbelief, my father actually stepped back. Not because he wanted to, but because, for once, someone had stopped him.

Chapter 8 - The Debris Field
drsawzall commented on Adam Andrews Johnson's story chapter in Chapter 8 - The Debris Field
We now know the humans aren't invincible...now to connect with others and hopefully those who brought down the alien ship... -
Understatement of the year, isn't that why the neanderthals slowly disappeared??? I'd always been more of a physical guy anyway. Not so good with thoughts.

David sorta grows on you, at least a tad...and now he simply can't catch a break.... “It’s magical though. I could use the protection it gives.” “It has a scrying enchantment on it. Someone could see you any time you wear it,” Arlo said. “Take it off. Give it to Coradiel. He’s been collecting them.” “Well, to be fair, the only other one I found was on Xanesha,” Coradiel said, taking the amulet from David. “Fine,” the cambion growled. “But that thing’s worth three thousand gold at least. You owe me now.” “And the best way to collect is to stick with us,” Coradiel pointed out. David sucked in a breath. “Fuck.”

More Pool, A Trip North, and Oops
drsawzall commented on Lee Wilson's story chapter in More Pool, A Trip North, and Oops
Yea...that's his my thought and I'm sticking to it...and why is Patsy Cline's Crazy plasying in my head after all of the song comments.... -
I only ask as it is a large part of this first chapter, alluding to, but not fully explaining why the differences are so stark between your two protagonists...it is the main part of the shifting dynamic and it raised my curiosity. Please note, as the author you need to create this story as you intend, I am simply along for the ride as it were...

Deirdre’s idiot boyfriend
drsawzall commented on Robert Hugill's story chapter in Deirdre’s idiot boyfriend
Having watched a couple of shows on smugglers at airports and other places, I am never surprised by the great lengths these folks go to 'hide' the stuff they should not be carrying. To Catch a Smuggler is on Nat Geo. That Jasper and all were "only" smuggling pocketbooks and perfume is a joke, considering the money to be made smuggling other stuff. The blowback is going to be very interesting to say the least....Let's not forget that this all happened because Jasper was stalking Toby, and if not stalking, then what was he doing in the first place???- 8 comments

Act II - He Lives In You
drsawzall commented on Jack Poignet's story chapter in Act II - He Lives In You
Well...there's twist...will the new arrivals hold the same possibility Ray does? I don't think it is going to be the dreaded Mother-in-Law...unless she's more like this...when no one is looking.... -
Sober or inebriated this boy is a slow-moving trainwreck... How will I ever live this down? Why did this have to happen to me? I guess I'd figure it all out after waking up sober. Shit… can't wait to see how that'll go down.
-
Like ships that pass in the night, I'm sad for the missed possibilities and hopeful that they meet again. I'd like a bit more background on the disparity between the Outside and the City!
-
Well, this is one heck of a ride, let's see where this is going...Hope Bry knows there are many stops on the hormonal express....and looking for love in all the wrong places....

This chapter was exceptional, a master class in wordsmithing! You've struck a vein of possibilities, none remotely promising. I can't wait to see the interaction between Griff and Alexis. Knowing what she knows about Griff, will she allow Griff to have any skin-to-skin contact? Would Griff be able to 'see' anything from Alexis by touching an object she held? While this style isn't my cup of tea, I am fascinated to see where you take this. Well Done!!!

The Honeyed Gaze and the Bitter Heart
drsawzall commented on E K Stokes's story chapter in The Honeyed Gaze and the Bitter Heart
Jealousy is a green-eyed monster that destroys those who harbor such feelings. Needlessly, a rift has been opened. Can anything be done to heal the fracture? -
That was very intense, suspenseful, and worrisome....glad to see the author's note at the end...

Well, at least it wasn’t a case of , what’s on the menu dear….
