The March of the Wretched, Part 3
drsawzall commented on Stephen Wormwood's story chapter in The March of the Wretched, Part 3
I believe this is where the kernel of the future decision Fran will make is born...He truly sees the duke for what he truly is, any doubts resolved, the promise of the family titles restored, again put off against a promise of aid from the 3000 troops he now commands... My apologies was his meaning, but apologies were unfit for men of his station. Hollow words make for weighty silences where a noble is concerned. “Thank you, your grace. After the coroner makes his visit, we will return Gustave’s body to Wallenstadt.” ********************* He frowned. “Your coy expression does not fool me. You know my desire. Those 3,000 troops stationed at Bunt. As the interim head of the Wallenheim Delegation… at this critical moment… they answer to your call. Summon them. Bring them to my aid and I will have you augmented to the Viscountcy of Thormont by the turn of the next tenday. So? What will it be?” ************************* What will Fran demand in return, will it be enough to be reunited with Ed, can he live the life of a commoner??? It was all Fran could whisper as he put quill to parchment in the lowlight of flickering candleflame. His heart was racing. His cheeks were flushed. But he wrote. His will. His directives. The proposition. The meeting ground. What of Lothar, and his brother? Is Edith pushing the envelope a bit, was that execution overkill? Ed is suffering from what appears to be PTSD, is he broken or repairable from his current state, has he become a danger? One hopes Fran is the balm that restores his soul... -
The March of the Wretched, Part 2
drsawzall commented on Stephen Wormwood's story chapter in The March of the Wretched, Part 2
Your best chapter yet...a further caution should be added to the chapter warnings, to refrain from eating before and after reading this... Ding dong...the wicked Lord is dead...ding dong may Gustave rot in the bowels of hades... I believe this is the beginning of the beginning of the end....Sorry Winston for bastardizing one of your better lines... The following is one of the crucial hurdles to cross, and lest we forget Constable Wolner...he has much to atone for, with his life... -
Is someone...namely a demon from Pandemonium out to use JJ against Travis???

Loving this and looking forward to more...The following has me a pondering about Grandma...I'm thinking she controlled the family pursestrings...and possibly her own funds... Grandma had been from a local family that had had businesses in the area since the 19th century. She had been quite an heiress, and Grandad had run the firms for her and done well. But the war, the labour shortage afterwards and everything else did for them, bits of the business were sold off piecemeal and at the end of the 1950s the last bit, a paper mill, went under the hammer. And that was it. We got nothing, or at least Dad didn't. Dad had been a very, very late baby, his mother was well over 40 when he was born, so we had never really known Grandad.

If you can't take a baseball bat or a 9 iron to the windows, pile some newspapers against the side of the cottage and strike a match....

One the one hand, our intrepid heros have to be the luckiest, most fortunate idiots alive to have survived in the world for as long as they have, as incredibly clumsy they've been, as this chapter has demonstrated... Then, the Good Sherriff Tucker blew his chance, giving Hadrian time to be possibly rescued instead of ending Hadrian's live as he should have...but no...wait there's more...Like all megalomaniacs he has to recite chapter and verse of all his dastardly exploits... Not convinced yet....Zain saves the day because of the shoes...Ya gotta love Gucci.... Zaîn felt an inexplicable connection with the creature and immediately understood that its presence could help him find the others. As the wolf let out a long howl toward the window, clearly calling him to join, Zaîn felt a sudden urgency. He quickly put on a large black blazer over his gray tracksuit and slipped into a pair of Gucci Pricetown burgundy mules,

Well now, thank goodness that went well...and OK all you haters... The jury has instructions the following might be considered tampering... "It doesn't feel like it took that long," Asa remarked. "Caleb's boosting ability is better than we imagined." Reading the beginning of this chapter reminded me of the following....

After That, Can Anything Be Normal?
drsawzall commented on Lee Wilson's story chapter in After That, Can Anything Be Normal?
God...that was a terrible pun...I shudder to think most of your readers can't remember some of the greatest guitar instrumentals of that, and any other generation. Mr Burlington needs a bit of costly education, truly learning the error of his ways... For all you plebes out there... -
The plot thickens and the best advice is to trust but verify....

Loved this chapter, very educational, when I was but a inquisitive young teen, an older friend educated me in a series of lessons I remember fondly to this day!!

Nice to have a chapter a day early and a reminder that there is a powerful storm coming, will the hurricane hit during a full moon??? I have to agree, this is the strongest swimmer amongst all the red herrings... This one is named Danny...

Well done!! A very poignant look at how PTSD effects our service members…My father was in China during WW2 and did not come back the person he was previously…I can only wonder how his life could have been so much better had the services been able to diagnose and treat PTSD. A remarkable tale that begs a second chapter!

Thought provoking and well worth the time to read, they say the devil is in the details and this is no exception. When tragedy strikes, how do you find the will to go forward? Well written, this is a master class in the art of writing an essay!!!

Well done...you took a difficult and contentious subject and handled it succinctly and adroitly along with a touch of grace and class... I remember being about 13 years old, standing outside Holy Angles waiting for my sisters friend to to come out after catechism class. As she came out Father Dwyer was behind her and admonished her for having friends who were protestant, that she could go to hell for hanging with us... I asked the good father about his vow of poverty as he was stepping into his Cadillac sedan...needless to say there was quite the ear bashing... I've had the same discussion with my 'born again' friends' and we always end up agreeing to disagree...just as I remind them we wouldn't have Democrats if it weren't for Republicans behaving badly....
