Well, I finally managed to read the story, and I enjoyed it. I spent several holidays in England as a kid and a a teen in the seventies, and it was quite nostalgic to read about those times. My only objection was the unlikely bit about the boys being circumcised. That would be quite unusual, since they were neither Yanks nor Jewish. Oh, and I can relate to the difficulty of writing dialogue.

It was good to see them ten years on, settled and happy. Having George living with them sounds like a good solution, and Brighton is a nice place for older people.

Yup - I thought so - but I hadn't thought about the Jumbos.

Ah, so that's how Billy knew Andrew's dad. Makes sense. George really is a good person, and his reward is having two sons who love him. Hopefully, he'll live a long time, because they still need a father in their lives. And didn't England win the World Cup in 1966 ? (Now I'll have to check the other comments to see if someone else says the same).

I'm glad Andrew turned out to be a friend, but I can't believe you stuck another snipped boy in there ! So unnatural. But I guess that explains the baby oil thing. I wonder where Billy knows Adrew's father from. It can't be the orphanage, since that was up in the north, and the family has been living in Margate for years, or Andrew would have been new to the school himself.

I'm pretty sure Andrew won't want to tell anyone why Billy punched him. But let's hope George has a good answer. I bet he's proud of Billy for telling him and asking his advice.

Malcolm seems a decent guy, even if he does have naughty pictures of Chris. But I guess we would think differently of him in this day and age.

I like that the boys appreciate what George is doing for them. The caning at school brings back memories of reading books where the story takes place in English boarding schools.

    Settling In

George is a good guy and very progressive for his time - we have to remember this was when homosexuality was still illegal in the UK.

    Getting There

Timothy M. commented on Ivor Slipper's story chapter in Getting There

I liked the matter of fact tone, but why on earth are two British boys circumcised ?? To me as a European that came across as really strange. Is this because you originally wrote the story for a US audience ?

    Story

I actually agree with you about Liz in general, as I don't like pushy extrovert people, who don't respect us introverts. But unless she actually jinxed Adam's car, she didn't play matchmaker or set them up. She only encoutaged him to go for the guy he liked anyway, and she kept his secret and didn't tell Gary. So maybe I shpuldn't have given her that much credit for introducing them.

    Story

LOL, you have a point, but in Ken's defense he didn't have that many options, since Colin didn't socialize with colleagues. I suppose he could have started to volunteer at the shelter, but I think that would have been even more awkward and probably more wrong than woeing Colin at work. In Denmark at least, quite a lot of people meet their partner through work, if not at college. PS From you comment here and on another story, I'm guessing you may have witnessed or experienced some bad examples of work place romance. Did you notice Colin had the same opinion at the beginning of the story, but he decided he and Ken were not working so close together, that it mattered.

Ugh, that pastor is too clever, but at least Robbie has the right attitude about being gay, and Sue even backed him up. I hope Robbie gets back together with Nathan, just to spite Don.

And leaving some great comments. I'm not leaving comments, because I've edited several chapters ahead and I'm afraid to make spoilers. I bet you can relate to the old cottage parts , they did make me think of you too - I thought you were already reading the story, or I would have included you too in my plug for the story.

@Headstall Whan your eyes get better (hopefully soon) I'd like to recommend Brian's new story Any Day. You'll enjoy the descriptions of the cottage and the planned renovations from chapter 8 onwards. Reminds me of some of your stories.

At least you are with him (which I'm sure your mum appreciates) and I hope you can comfort each other. Annecy is a beautiful town and the lake is great. I hope you get at least some nice weather.

I love the story banner. It really evokes the setting. Who made it?

    Friday (Evening)

Is that what we call a win-win-win situation? I'm very glad Aunt Kate got a nice bonus from defeating the nasty laywer firm. Kudos to Simon for calling Jeff at once to tell him.

Hmm, I may have to dig out Rob to use the prompt by Carlos.

For once a story I haven't read, so I'll have to give it a try. Great review @spikey582

Looks good. I like the Pot Luck idea. Hopefully, it will bring in more stories. But I also think it's a good idea to keep the themes, because it's interesting to see the differnt takes on the same topic.

    I Promise

Timothy M. commented on Carlos Hazday's story chapter in I Promise

LOL, you seem to be doing the rounds of stories with guys who are dragged out to bars by well-meaning friends and happen to find their soul mate. Did you use a special tag to find them ?

Thank you, you are most kind, and such encouragement is sorely needed to restart my writing. My motivation disappeared after I was given some rather harsh evaluations of several stories, and I haven't been able to work my way out of the slump yet. But I'm determined it will happen on day, and your praise is a nudge in the right direction. I'm very glad you liked Frankie, he was a fun challenge to describe. I want to see him through the eyes of detective Kasumaki next.
