    Part 3

Forbearing Foobears causing things to go FUBAR?
  2. Interesting chapter, with some complications.
  3. I still have to wrap gifts (which I need to do today), then bake the chocolate-orange cake I'm wanting to make which should be delicious if it turns out correctly) then the "joy" of family for a day and a half.
  4. Love the story!

    Fear

Those are valid concerns -- but those weren't the things Clay was reacting too; he hadn't even read the material Mason had sent. His rejection was out of pure fear based in stigma.
  6. Have a lunch date tomorrow afternoon. Things have been going ok so far - hope they continue.
  7. Got off work a bit early today - so already have supper for the evening in the oven. Glad for the next week and a half off. Hope everyone had a great day.

    Chapter 7

Hm.... wonder why the avoidance by the twins. Fear of scaring him further?

    Desire

The plot(s) thicken... Chapter sets up a lot of things for the future.

    Chapter 6

So sad. So much abuse he has suffered -- not just physical, but emotional; and by those who should have been stopping it.

    Epilogue

I'd been missing this. 💗 Perfect end to the story.

    O Holy Night

I was going to make the same comment. "Lovely" isn't the right word for this story, but it was still well written.
  13. take care of yourself now, so you'll be around to help take care of others later

    Christmas Day

There's some evidence that suggests the high increase in allergies in "developed" countries compared to "undeveloped" is a result of our over-sterile environments.

    Ninety Days

Good luck - I hope you can get things back to a normal range with dietary changes and avoid any meds. I have a predisposition to high cholesterol from dad's side of the family, and a history of "cardiovascular issues" on moms side -- a wonderful genetic cocktail -- and the meds for me were pretty much unavoidable. Are your sodium levels in a normal range? Mushrooms (esp. shiitake) are naturally high in vitamin D. Will they be doing any followup tests during the 90-days, or only at the end? If they're doing interim tests then, as others have suggested, viewing it as a set of smaller goals could help you from feeling overwhelmed.
  16. Came home early today. Weather has been cold (at/below freezing) and damp, and we've had light sleet/snow mix most of the afternoon. Joints haven't been happy in three days and this isn't helping. Having an early supper and took 2 pain pills. By next week though, we'll be 10 F above normal - so no white Christmas this year.

    The Raven

This is one of my favorite chapters. You get to see some of the 'humanity' Harlan so carefully hides behinds his various masks (that he would go through the pain again for his father; the cold feeling in the pit of his stomach at the thought of having to destroy the sculpture); the description of Elias getting lost in his work; Orson's amazement at falling in love, and his sadness & pride in Elias' growth.
  18. Love the story -- and agree that I'd love to see more of this world
  19. If we're doing Christmas songs:

    Snowy Pizza

The only bears around here are the ones you find in bars. Loved the story.

    Joe

It's incredibly distressing to watch your life burn to the ground in front of you. An experience I hope no one else here has to go through. I'll second @droughtquake and say that, in addition to making sure your insurance covers replacement cost, take the time to review it now and then. What was perfectly fine 15 years ago, when you set up the policy that you've never looked at again, probably isn't going to be enough now.
  22. Thank you. Going to try to get some sleep tonight; relax on the computer some. Hopefully, I'll be able to sleep. Was nice to see some of the faculty from other disciplines show up - that doesn't always happen.
  23. Attended the memorial for the wife of a faculty member today. They had planned on retiring this year (for the second time), take a position back with his Alma Mater that involved less work (his idea of retirement), and enjoying their time together. She was a sweet, kind, lovely woman -- but don't mistake that for weak. Not sure exactly how long they've been married, but longer than I've been alive. Between that and the weather changes making me ache, I've been mostly awake since 3am. Too much loss in the last year. 😢
  24. Beautiful

    Battle

Definitely this -- he's no longer walking on eggshells all the time, and is finally someplace he feels both safe and loved (probably for the first time). This is letting him drop his walls a bit, and open up.
