    Valrinda has disarmed an assassin, but where have they gone? I said before the boy needs something to protect himself with, something better than a hayrake. "Who knew they were there?" Now that was a hoot. It's kind of hard to miss a human traveling with a dragon in this place. I also find it concerning when you've made enough noise to raise the dead and no one shows up.

    What I'm failing to grasp here and it hasn't been explained, is exactly why Fran is no longer a lord. Is it merely because he doesn't possess Gead? If so, this is highly unusual. @Stephen Wormwood Could you explain?

    Another thought. Since none of them go where the evil ones live, how long has it been since any of them have been seen? One other point, since they weren't around the evil skinwalkers when they performed the cleansing ritual or even know exactly where they were, how were they to know if it did or didn't work?

    Good point since being evil would manifest itself by an equally disturbing appearance. But then again this logic might not occur to them. Fear erases logic. Alternatively, they might believe they had found a way to mask their evil.

    The trooper is still alive despite the passage of time and his lifestyle is shall we say quite well off. What I carried around back then would be more lucrative than robbing a bank. If he didn’t clip it, chances are either the ambulance drivers, the coroner, or the funeral home would. When you live in an environment of sharks, you have to make careful choices or risk becoming a perpetual victim. I was at a fatal wreck scene about fifty odd years ago where a teenager had flipped a pickup and was thrown out. It was dark and I never saw his face or even knew his name. He was still warm. I wish he was the last one I ever had to move.

    You never forget the first time you do something unpleasant like having to move a dead body. There is truth to the term dead weight. If you have help, go for the leg end. Jubal's ridged sense of morals is too strict. Lucas is more practical. I had a state trooper tell me once if I was ever in a fatal wreck, he hoped he was the first one there. At least he was honest in his admission. It's a double lucky break for Jubal to get his pack horse and some of his goods back, but why were the rifle and pistol removed? Did the survivor take them or were they on one of the brothers' horses?

    The constable is a nasty piece of work. If I were him, I wouldn't order drinks in public places. He's the kind poisons are made for. If he went down a dark alley, he'd look like an overused pincushion. Oh, Lothar is going to be so busy.

    You have to keep in mind the author wrote everything except the epilogue when he was a teenager. He wanted to finish it now and the rest hasn't been edited or revised. I think it's perfectly fine on that basis. There might be lingering questions, but I'm satisfied.

    I didn't see this as strange at all. Rebellion is what teens do. The goth part is to irritate his father. Bullies often create children who are bullies. Patrick has likely become big enough he can't be bullied by his father anymore. This is my impression anyway.

    It is a nasty and lingering way to go with patients taking as long as six months to die. Pain is chronic and practically untreatable.

    The only cure is a transplant and those who have the condition due to addiction or continuing poor lifestyle choices have no chance on the donor list. Unfortunately, this creates a ghastly market for human traffickers.

    I'm sorry the boy met such an undeserved fate. However, his father knew Lonklam was a monster and dealt with him anyway. He is a flesh peddler of the worst sort. It's impossible to conceive any of the poor wretches under his control serviced a creature as loathsome as Lonklam willingly. When you consort with the Devil, you deserve all the pain and damnation which comes your way.
