    I very much enjoyed this chapter. How indeed to extract a royal head from the regal posterior? Nico is, I fear, in for a very difficult task. At least Ivan appears to be an ally in the effort. I really like the addition of Henry as a canine character.

    I am heartened to hear about the 'emergency morning list' and that you have identified four factors to your difficulties. I hope what you describe will help ease the burden you carry. It can't be easy to share so much of yourself with everyone, and I admire you for doing so.

    What happens to me is that I get interrupted or rushed in my reading - I get just a few minutes to read on many days. If I can, I circle back to pick up the thread of the story or poem and try to make a thoughtful comment. But I know that I am guilty of forgetting sometimes, which I regret. Like @droughtquake, I've wondered why mine is one of very few comments - or even the only one - on a great piece.

    My own mom passed just a couple of years ago, and the memories are still fresh. And like you, I still sometimes feel the flicker in the heart and know she’s there. Such a lovely poem. Thank you for posting it.

    I think Jordan is more in the right of this. Even so, the prospect of losing one’s family can’t be minimized. Jordan risks doing that; Noah is paralyzed by it. But Noah risks losing Jordan - and his very self - by retreating into fear. Incidentally, I’m completely floored by Noah’s mom. What year does she think this is? Is John Diefenbaker still Prime Minister of Canada? Need another, sweeter chapter soon, please...

    Thank you for reading these, and for taking the time to look up bluebirds. Usually, we think of them as summer residents, but there they were flitting about the scrub and low trees. Tanka are fun to write; such concentration of emotion and image.

    Your words are very kind. The bluebirds - there were five - puffed up in buff and iridescent blue against the cold. I was astonished to see them, but there was no mistake. Their appearance capped an extraordinary afternoon. I enjoy Tanka, though I had to get used to their inherent rhythm as I wrote scribble after scribble.
