    The chasm between Andy and Eric is both amusing and tragic. The emptiness and loneliness of Eric’s existence is compounded by his age and limitations. Andy’s blindness to this hurts me, and I’m just a reader. But he was never going to be a magical panacea for Eric, was he?

    I agree: Robert Boyle is hardly necessary for mirthless toil, merely sufficient. I laugh about your post over the English classroom door. Better that than nailing 99 theses to the door, and far less tedious. I remember my English teacher holding the class completely captivated by explaining the raciest bits of Shakespeare to us...     Wow. You painted this so vividly. I could feel the cold, sense the snow biting. And the colors - muted and grey - I know these colors, and yet you made them alive for me. And I have to agree with @mollyhousemouse, this was very, very cinematic. I was glad for your disclaimer at the end, as this was a very powerful poem, evoking deep sadness and hurt.

    Perfect post! Tony can copy this, right? I enjoyed this chapter so much. Geoff’s incremental growth in confidence and love must have Tony anticipating a lovely ‘someday.’ In the meantime, T & G seem to be growing closer and closer as a pair, as people - not just sex partners. Hope Stu gets what he deserves, soon.
