  1. Ding! … Ding! … Ding! Finally, Helen turned over in bed, groaned, and began to grope on the bedside cabinet for her phone. God, her head hurt! Who invented hen nights, anyway? She just managed to grab hold of the slippery outer case before it fell off onto the floor. Eyes now partially open, she unlocked the phone. God, the glare from the screen was dazzlingly bright. Was it even morning yet? The bedroom was dark, with only the faintest hint of light coming in through the curtai

    His Tale

Thanks, dugh! Your praise means a lot. It was my first attempt at a first-person stream of consciousness. The subject matter is indeed horrifying.

    His Tale

Indeed. The fact that it got written without date, place or names helps to give it an universal feel. Thanks for reading and commenting.

    His Tale

Thanks for reading to the end. There is a little hope there. I didn't want to leave it without showing some light. Yes, for some poor unfortunates it could be true, or close enough. And without that hope.

    His Tale

Thank you for persevering. That you feel ill is a compliment in a way, though I'm also sorry. Yes, the treatment of gay / transgender people can still be barbaric, murderous even. And that's at both the personal and the judicial level.

    His Tale

Thank you. Not an easy read. Just as it wasn't an easy write, either. And, yes, there are thoughts about whether someone, somewhere, is existing like this.

    Barred

Thank you for your wonderful comment and review. Dark tales aren't to be found much around these parts, so I'm glad you found it greatly to your taste.

    Barred

What would your thoughts be if you were alone, at night, imprisoned only for who you are? One man gives us his.

    Chapter 1

Excellent read. Like Wildone, I could hardly scroll down fast enough. A horror story, but not quite in the way you'd expect. More tragedy, perhaps.
  10. Great chapter. Are things coming to a close, finally? Or is it a staging post? Anyone know if it's possible to add images to chapters? Don't think so. Maybe you could belatedly start a story topic and post the images there ...

    His Tale

What day is it tomorrow? Thursday. No … Friday? … Wait, wasn't it a Sunday when this all started? Can't be bothered to work backwards. Too long ago. Makes my head hurt for no purpose. What's the point in knowing what day it is? Doesn't make any difference. What you expecting, you stupid fucker? Fish on Friday? A Sunday roast? [Sigh] Can't see my calendar marks in the dark. Don't even know which wall they're on, hardly, in this all-enveloping blackness. Can't even see the measly, barred

    Home Truths

There's not being desperate, and there's losing someone you don't want to lose. I think Geoff was closer to the latter than he realised. Still, things worked out. Glad you enjoyed it, my friend.

Beautiful and sensual. You have such a way with words, dear friend.

    Chapter 1

Maybe if you'd had more time, you would've been to play more with the strange woodsman? Like CassieQ, I was a little disappointed with the reveal. I was thinking Pan, satyrs, other wood deities. Still, never mind. That's me letting my mind run riot. A good tale.
  15. Yes ... In receipt of my instructions, ma'am. Whether I'm going to know what to write - that's something else again.

    Chapter 1

You really got me going with the virgin sacrifice ... Wow! Then it all seems to resolve, but it doesn't. I love weird tales like this - just what was real? And what does Linden know, really know? Great story.

    Chapter 1

For a scarecrow with no brains, it didn't take Camilo too long to get back on the right path. Like Puppi, I feel sorry for Terry, being caught in the cross-fire.

    Chapter 1

Halloween, the insider's perspective. Loved it.
  19. From the pinned comment by Renee, there were some problems with the formatting when the stories were published first time round.
  20. Last lot of notifications, looked at just, were accurate and real. Thanks, @A.J. for coming to the rescue again.
  21. I'm going to be good and get my own work done first. Aren't I? Possibly ... Wonderful to see so many stories.
  22. It's certainly happening to me on my android tablet using Chrome. But not, I think, on my WIndows laptop, also using Chrome. Re-edited *sigh* No sooner did I say that, when a ghost notification popped up.
  23. Hi, @A.J. I've checked what I looked at before, and all reputation seems to have been restored. from me, at least.
  24. Congratulations, Gary! What wonderful, wonderful news, my friend. Very well deserved.
  25. Same here. My story chapters now have no likes - the reactions to the comments are still there, though. The reputation I gave to Parker Owens' latest chapter this morning is still there, but all the others from yesterday have vanished.
