  1. Well the Author, James S. A. Corey, of The Expanse series is a pen name for two people, Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. Abraham and Martin have collaborated a lot on different projects and even has done the Comicbook adaptations of Game of Thrones. So, it's possible that Abraham is the person, but the article I read didn't list a name of the "friend" Martin goes too.
  2. I read he has a friend that knows everything about his Song of Fire and Ice series, and when he's stumped he calls him for advice.
  3. There's been a lot of topics the past couple of weeks on Inspiration. So, today let's talk about the next step after inspiration strikes: notes and research. Notes For me, after I catch a figment of inspiration I jot it down in my "Notes Journal." I have several of them, from old fashion pen-and-paper notebooks to digital using OneNote by Microsoft. These notes can be as simple as a brief one-sentence description, a fully outlined scene, or just a character name jotted down for later. It's easier to work in digital because I can collate notes that belong together. Examples: Story Idea: "This young man, from another dimension, lives in a converted barn, with his cousin." Character Name: Garrett Sullivan. Research After I do notes, that's when research comes into play. I look at what I have for notes and expand upon them. Take for example, in my story My Son, even though I live in Tampa, I still research places I want to use in the story. Like there is a "Pirate Water Taxi" service that does various spots around Downtown Tampa. They used to go to Lowery Park for the Tampa zoo, but have since stopped that service. So, now I have a choice. Keep it real, and not use them, or go fictional and make them do something they don't do. So, what about you all? How do you handle notes and research?
  4. Thanks for reading, and for the comment, IBEX! It will be glorious I promise that.
  5. Thanks for reading, flesco! You're right about Adam having the resources, but his connections via Tibs is going to save a lot of time. While also being untraceable, back to Adam. Chapter 7 should be done soon.
  6. No. You are not one of them.
  7. Before I start to write, inspiration can come from anywhere. From news, to T.V. shows, to music, to pictures, to talks with people, to stories written by other people, and a healthy dose of role-playing games, are some of the things I find inspiration in. From there, once I start writing, I sit and do a vague outline. Just a bullet point summary of what I want to do in a scene. I use the idea I got, and just kneed it until I get a nice dough ball. Once that's done, I let it rest until I'm ready to write. Then it's a matter of linking scenes together in a chapter and then chapters together in an overall arc. During, because I write in serial format, two things influence my writing. How I am feeling at the time, and my medical conditions. I have to be mindful because sometimes, I'm unable to write if my hands are shaking too bad. Other times, It's hard to write a sex scene when I just had a fight with a roomie, and all I want to do is punch someone in the nose. I will play music targetting the scene, hoping that helps put me in the right frame of mind. Nothing with words. Too distracting. Also, Reader Comments and Interaction. If no one is reading my story, then I prioritize it less, than one that has a more active following. (Hint Readers... Want more chapters? Well, comment on the story and there's a discussion thread!) Afterward, the cycle repeats.
  8. Big Bad Evil Guy. The main villain of the story.
  9. Overall man, it's a great Urban Fantasy story. Has a great cast of characters to boot, as well. Finn - I like. Seems a bit naive at times. Sam - I dislike. Comes across as a bully to me. Like you mentioned earlier, could be societal differences, but he's said he's been in our world extensively. He should know how to fit in. Christian - I like. Seems like a nice guy, but I have some sort of suspicion that he's not what he appears to be. Just a nagging feeling. Nora - Indifferent. Seems like she's hired help. But that is an excellent resource for information. People forget about servants and will talk in front of them. The Mother - Not Keen on her. I can see her being the B.B.E.G. of the story. Or her boyfriend. She was really quick to give up the house, because of the "rules." However, she was going to sell the house and property in spite of those same rules.
  10. As of right now, yeah. But remember, I felt the same about the Sister in changes. We saw how I was wrong about her. The evidence is showing me, I'm in the minority on this one. LOL. That's the beauty of stories. They can be seen differently by the readers, and we can be at odds with each other without hostilities.
  11. From chapter 1 to 3, he's been very aggressive, mean-spirited, and manipulative. Yes, in chapter 2 he was all nice and caring for the plane ride, but overall he's just a big bully.
  12. Another well thought out, and constructive article, Comsie. Thank you, for volunteering your time to this.
  13. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to break out the barbed-wire encrusted baseball bat for Sam... Turn his hide into a leather belt. Really not liking him, but I am liking Finn a lot. Not too keen on the mother either.
  14. I wonder if Salamander skin makes good leather? Not really liking Sam, based on his personality. Great job tim, of making the characters come alive.
  15. This is some excellent writing. Lots of research has been done to get not only terms but descriptions of several weapons systems correct. Brilliantly executed, and well thought out an planed. I felt like I was in the situation with Tom Ross, several times.
  16. Excellent story so far. I just finished reading the currently published 17 chapters, and can't wait for more. Thank you for writing this story.
  17. I've read the first three a few times. Been meaning to finish the series, but just haven't had the gumption to do so. Overall, it's a good series.
  18. A short tale of a Military Court of Inquiry. Very well written and thought out. Read like a report, but was quick and entertaining.

    BAD SCIENCE

From a Florida native, who has lived with Hurricanes all his life... THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
  20. You got nothing to be sorry for. Real life always takes the first spot, and you do interact with people.
  21. The cake is a lie!
  22. Thanks for reading, and for the response, Hunter of Porn. Adam is borderline alcoholic. He does have the gene for addiction, as evident by Tibs, but his drinking is normally much more controlled. Chapter 7 is right around the corner.
  23. Thanks for reading, and for the comment, glennish. Something wicked this way comes... in chapter 7.
  24. Thanks for reading, Kaimuki. That is something that Adam has in the back of his mind. So, he will keep an eye out for any repercussions.
