  1. I can agree with this. You mentioned Lewis and Tolkien being friends. I read an article that discussed how Tolkien's friends would beg him to shut up about his stories because he would drone on and on about them. LOL. To be honest, I read the Hobbit, and can barely make it 10 pages into Fellowship, before I pass out. It's great for nights when my insomnia is really bad. Back on topic. I'll take a look at these books. I've seen the movies but never had a chance to read the books.
  2. I heard that about C.S. Lewis, but never about Tolkien. However, it does shed a new light on the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Granted, I still feel that a monkey with a keyboard is a better writer than Tolkien, it does make me want to take a deeper look.
  3. When I read this story, I didn't know what to expect, as tim took us on a fantastic urban fantasy short story. Set in his native land of Canada, Finn is reminded of a promise he made as a child to Sam. But it's more than a simple promise... it's a family obligation that needed protecting. As we watch Finn, return home, you watch his world change, and you feel the love that happens. It was a well-crafted story, excellent visuals, and great pacing. A vibrant world that was crafted.

    The Story

A most excellent tale, and chapter. Loved it tim!
  5. I know with the move, fixing the barn up, and a new job, you might be pressed for time, but how's the writing going Myr? I'm hoping you get to squeeze some time in there, someplace.
  6. Heya Myr... I know this one didn't make the anthology, but do you have plans to still release it when you're done?
  7. Oh, tim... Hugs man. Lots of virtual hugs.
  8. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers, my villain. I wish you good luck, and I hope it goes a lot smoother than what you think.
  9. I have a FanFic that is based on EvE Online. Another has elements from D&D 5e in it. Another is based on campaign notes from a Palladium books game. One based on Star Trek Online. An article on how to use RPGs to be a better worldbuilder and writer. Now, most of these were written at a time when I didn't know about LitRPG, and they are mostly narrative. I'm currently writing a LitRPG that is simply titles right now Timeless. This one is going to be more Real World / Game World story within a story split.
  10. Weather is one thing, but Tampa has some other events at that time, like Gasparilla Pirate Fest, the GLBT Indie Movie Fest, and a few other things that happen between January and March.
  11. A little more than that, but nothing I will say publicly. You know that Google censorship in public spaces, and that euro-trash GDPR.
  12. Both got hurt and walked away unaffected. It depended on the guy. Overall, like James said, it sucks... majorly.
  13. In my experience, the ones I was in, it was less willing, and more it snuck up and smacked me across the head. "It's all fun and games until someone catches the feels." And that someone was usually me.
  14. Demographics perhaps? I do vary it up a little. I have several different pairings. Some mundane, like two 16-year-olds, or two 38ish-year-olds, to something a bit more unusual. Like a Werebear and a Half-Elf, and a Normal Human and a Primordial God of love.
  15. When you are talking about scenes, are you meaning a full chapter or a part of a chapter? To me, when I write a multi-chapter story, I plot out the chapter to include on average 5 or 6 scenes. Some flow easily from one into another, others are drastic changes to locations. Ultimately it is up to you, on how many scenes are in a chapter, and how many chapters are in your story, to tell the tale you want to be told.
  16. Tampa's PRIDE Parade and Festival were back in March. St. Pete will be June 22, so I'll most likely attend that one, during PRIDE Month.
  17. Addiction is a powerful disease. Sometimes the person needs a little bit of help. Has he gone to AA?
  18. The Clubs are a great resource tool to use and thank you for the mention about Topic Tuesdays!
  19. Hello fellow writers, it's time for another Topic Tuesday!!! I haven't mentioned it in a while, so to refresh... Topic Tuesday, is a personal initiative of mine, to get the Writer's Club more interactive with each other. I toss out a topic for discussion, add my 2 copper to it, and hopefully, we can all have a nice dialogue. Now for this weeks topic. Goals and Deadlines. As hobbyist writers, many of us don't have deadlines. When I was doing journalism back in High School and College, we had deadlines to meet, in order to get the yearbook and newspaper to the publisher. If you write eBooks or dead-tree books, for money, then you have deadlines as well. Now as a hobbyist, we can benefit from self-imposed deadlines. For example, I am currently writing a new story, in a genre I've never done before. I have set a deadline for myself to start posting by the end of July on this story. Goals work in tandem with deadlines for the hobbyist writer. While I have the above deadline, I've also set some goals for my self. 1. To have around 5000 words per chapter. 2. A total word count of 50,000 words. 3. At least 4-hours a day to write. (As long as my disabilities don't get in the way.) 4. To post after I've completed the story, and not to go serial on it. Those are just a few examples, I have several more with this project. So, how about you? Do you set goals and deadlines for yourself?
  20. Update: Prologue - Completed Chapter 1 - Plotted, and in progress. Chapter 2 - Plotted. I hope no one minds, but I was going to use this as a way to mark progress. Willing to discuss the story as well.
  21. Might I recommend the Gay Mecca... Key West, FL, for a longer stay.
  22. Your story and personal experience is a lesson of being open and inclusive. The majority of people on all sides are like that. Live and let live sorts. Sadly its the vocal minority of divisionists that people listen to, and they come in all stripes of life. Thank you for sharing Carlos, and I hope what you said becomes more the norm, and less the exception.

    I Am Number Four

I agree. The movie was excellent, and there was a lot of Eyecandy in it.
  24. Guilty as charged. I'm disabled, and keep odd hours. So, I'm usually on one of four different places online most times. When I'm not writing, or reading. One of my issues is I have hand tremmors, and it affacts my typing. So when it gets bad, I go into lurk mode, and trawl the site for stuff to read. If I'm not reading a novel, or use a voice recorder to make notes. I'm just the same as you, just with more time on my hands to interact with. I don't mean to be intimidating, and I'm sorry that I come across that way.
