When your story started, I thought you were going to explore the religious apocolyptic approach, but then you switched to a lost civilization. I'm not sure if that previous civilization was ET inspired or possibly Atlantis related, but it give a different view of what the end of the world meant. I enjoyed reading your story.
An interesting take on the theme, with an other worldly twist. I knew I would never be on one of those survival lists, but I'm glad you pointed out the fact that there construction may be significantly flawed and still end up dooming the survival of the human race. Well done and extremely interesting.
It certainly wasn't the end of the world I was expecting, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I also loved the creative use of the holographic image. Great job!
If I were to think of the world dying of suffocation, I would have thought it would have been from the belching of volcanic gases and ash, not a depletion in the amount of available oxygen. An interesting concept, nicely played out from multiple points of view.
A very interesting take on the theme. Mom prepares for the worst, the family parties when it doesn't happen and Vance suffers. It was very believable and the emotions were clearly portrayed. An enjoyable read, especially with tpe upbeat ending. Great job, as usual.
This story is part of the Mayan Tribute Anthology and I'd love to get your reaction to this story. Thanks.

I do this as well. I find I do it most when there are things I don't understand or don't feel I can talk to others about. I also do it when I visit the gravesites of loved ones that have passed. My family background is primarily Welsh, but there is some Irish in there as well, but I don't remember anyone discussing this as I was growing up, although I did notice close relatives doing it as well.
Thanks, Dolores. I had to do some thinking about the situation you mention and decided it was their only option. I'm glad you enjoyed the story and found it believable.
Sure, why not party for the last few days, if you think the world is going to come to an end. The only problem is, the after-party hangover and cleanup are a bitch.
I would think that once it started rolling, whatever was inside would do more damage to you than what was outside.
Could you imagine being tossed around inside one of those? I wonder how many idiots bought one.
Does the world end when we go from December 31 to January 1 each year. It was just a calendar, so when it ends it only means it's time to go out and buy a new one. Seeing they used large rocks to make their calendars, the Mayans just didn't want to have to go out and buy a new one every year, they made their calendar last a longer time. Now that it's came to an end, it's just time to get a new one. End of story. lol
I would like to send my deepest sympathies to Roan's family, loved ones and friends. It seems as if this is the weekend for expressing sadness over the loss of a great number of young souls.
I definitely won't be around for the series to recycle, as long as we get by 12/21/12 - which I feel confident we shall, provided the politicians are kept out of the process. lol
Percy, thanks for the feedback, but I didn't see enough of a pause where they could enjoy their Red Man tobacky. lol I'm glad you enjoyed the action and the dialect. I guess spending the past few years in GA paid off.
Thanks for the feedback, Dolores, and I'm glad you enjoy my stories. I've sometimes been accused on spending too much time 'describing and teaching' in my stories, but then again I've also had many favorable comments about doing so as well. I'm glad you appreciate those details.
