The story is set pre Julius Caesar. Marcus, an ex centurion and roman citizen has settled to a life running his family's farm, after the loss of his parents. We find him in the slave market looking for new slaves. (the story contains some darker images)

Their teenage sons, James and Winston, meet for the first time on the flight to Munich. James is immediately infatuated with Winston. There’s more to this trip than either of the boys expect.

We follow the continuing story of Edwin Crawford, where he spends four years living and studying in Zurich, Switzerland, with Mathematics and Physics being his study majors. Robert attends his graduation celebration, and as he prepares to return to Scotland, he receives and urgent call, and he and Edwin rush back to Scotland.

Two boys from totally different backgrounds. Two different and equally dramatic histories. Two testing struggles. A tempestuous love affair in a provincial German town. Narrow-minded middle-class attitudes, venomous and hypocritical Catholic morality, archaic, harsh foreign prejudices. Street Art rebellion and a society basking in a false sense of security, ignoring the largest future natural disaster and the threat of war.

The book opens with two introductions and continues through a tumultuous series of events to a not quite inevitable conclusion!
