Musings of a Messed Up Mind - 16. Illusions of Love and The Trickster

Hope or hopelessness? Are they real or illusions?

Illusions of Love

Love is a desperation, an illusion, only hope.
We tell each other I love you, but it’s not real.
Each of us is single, like a lone spinning planet,
that the universe steers like a drunken man.

And we crash together, and love and lust.
Like flickering lights, our power flashes bright.
Until, like the sun, it fades and falls into dark.
We are alone again, facing the endless void.

But some lights don’t go out, don’t die.
They stay and grow and believe - together.
Are they alone, or is there more?
I want there to be ....

The Trickster

And then you're gone and I am alone again
I miss your voice and the smell of you
Refusing the tears that threaten
Knowing I'm stronger than that, I breathe
But the victory is short-lived, I fool myself
Pretending I am something – on my own
I am a falsehood, a sham, a trickster
For without you, I am naught.

Thank you to all of you who take the trouble to read my words..
I appreciate your reviews and likes ... Thank you.

Hey Tim

It's never any trouble reading your words. I look forward to them all...yes, even the sad ones. They may be melancholy but their is a powerful beauty in them too. Being able to express one's thoughts so eloquently that the reader cannot turn away is a gift. A gift you have in boundless amounts.

As always, nicely done.

You write very powerfully in each of these. Trickster speaks very much to me, and you should know you are not alone in what this poem make one feel. And yet, I surely hope that we are more than what the poem suggests, for that we are means we may be genuine. Illusions plays on our fears, the ones we listen to when the Trickster is talking to us. I wait on the hope that is surely there, waiting for me at the end of every smile, or hug, or encouraging word. The sure hope that the nasty little voice is too full of malice to be right. Thank you to speaking these for us.

These poems are powerful Tim, and they speak volumes. You are so good at articulating your feelings and with such honesty. It makes it easy to recognise what those words represent personally. My hope is that these illusions are fleeting. That there is a sure certainty in the hope you allude to. That the trickster will eventually fade into obscurity.
Hugs....

As always well written. There is however a general malaise of spirit to them, a longing sense of all for naught ... and a glimmer of hope for a better day.

I didnt know where best to post these. Because the incentive to write them came from a TV show called River. But the feelings are mine too... there is a glimmer, but I dont know that i believe it.

Thank you dugh.. tim

Pretty powerful stuff, tim... both of them. I choose to dwell on the kernals of hope that exist within the words themselves. Take care... Gary...

Yes Gary..as I said to dugh, this was an argument. One saying we are born alone and die alone and are never really truly with another person, while the other said no that's not true. And it touched a chord with me, as I often feel truly alone, even though there are other around me.

Thank you Parker. I don't think I'm alone in the feelings I express in poetry. I think lots of people can relate. Or have felt the same way. Thanks for reading and your support.

Thanks Def. I appreciate your thoughtful comments. I find it interesting what people think about the trickster about who you think it is.

Thank you for you support and for reading...

There is despair and loneliness and even regret in your words, but there also seems to be a flicker of hope. Maybe the hope, if given some room to grow, will win out?

Hi LL.. thank you for your kind words, for reading and for your support of me. Off topic but I'm writing something just for you, you gave me the idea... hopefully before Christmas... tim

Hmmm ...I'm late to this tim.

I don't share the opinion of any of the previous reviewers. I guess that makes me wrong. But hey! You can't be wrong about interpreting poetry, because poetry speaks inside you, no matter what the poet may have had in mind. Do I make sense?

OK, time for the dragon to stick out his neck.
This is the same poem.
It is two sides of the same coin.
The change of font is significant in reinforcing my belief.
It is beautifully crafted and eloquently described, but it describes the same thing.
To me.
Anyway.

Thanks tim

I don't know why I didn't see this. Maybe I needed to see it today. You are more right than you think Skinny. I love the braveness of you! To say what you feel and see. To me each poem belongs to the one who reads it, feels it, inhales it ... sees it.
