Aditus' prompts and circumstances - 31. Poetry Prompt 18 – Rubaiyat - Two poems

span>The prompt: write one four-lined Khayyám-style Rubaiyat on the theme of 'your muse'.

I.

The promise you made that night with your word,

your body, became music in my blood,

and let me form lines of songs yet unheard

to open the cage and free my black bird.

II.

His word does not taste of sun-warmed earth,

licked off my body in playful mirth.

Tonight it is dark and reeks of death.

With my song I strive to prove its worth.

The first is not following the rules, but stubbornly insisted to be written "wrong". :P  The second is hopefully following the given rules.

I'm glad you broke the rules. Right now, black birds sing from every roof top here in Stockholm, serenading the dusk. And each other I suspect. Such a striking image for creativity.

The first poem was beautiful with his light, fun images. The second poem was also beautiful, but the images were dark and depressing.

Excellent job, Addy! :)

I'm glad. To be honest, I felt a little bad. I tried to move words around, but it came always back to the first version.

Thanks, for the forgiving comment. :)
