    Building a mystery!

    By Cole Matthews

If you know me at all, you know I love a good mystery story.  Dame Agatha Christie, Jonathan Kellerman, Joseph Hansen, Martha Grimes, Earl Derr Biggers, Dashiell Hammett, Robert Parker, Minette Walters, Joe Lansdale, Wilkie Collins, and many many more all come to mind.  There is something intriguing about a whodunit or even a whydonit.  They are also such fantastic period pieces, where you journey to another place and live in a different time.  You can read about Dave Brandstetter in the 19

London Pride 2023: We’ve Come a Long Way

It was London Pride last weekend and again we attended it. It has been a tradition in my life ever since I first moved to London. It is “our day” when LGBTQ people can celebrate out and openly on London’s streets. This year again I noticed a trend that I first saw at last year’s London Pride, the teenager attending their first Pride, but they aren’t alone. I saw fourteen, fifteen and sixteen year olds so obviously on their first Pride and accompanied by their mothers. The mother was dressed

While everyone is focusing on the Secret Author contest (psst, make sure you follow @Secret Author and check out the daily stories), I've been busy typing up the wonderful

June CSR Discussion Day: Geeks by CassieQ

Delayed a bit, but worth the wait! I laughed out loud a few times, gasped at least once (too many books, no such thing!) and thoroughly enjoyed both CassieQ's story Geeks and her interview answers. Please make sure you leave your comments below for her to share your thoughts too! Who was the real villain, ACME or Wile E. Coyote?  ACME.  Coyote is just trying to eat.  ACME looks like they supply terrorists. If you were an animal, what would you be?  Probably a cat.  I excel

Weekly Wrap Up (Jun 25 - Jul 1)

RIP Carlos Hazday After the news the previous week of hearing of the passing of Carlos Hazday, one of the sites most prolific authors from him contributing in so many ways, we held off on the GA News Blog to give everyone the time and Carlos the small amount of respect we could afford him. In case you haven't been on site for a few weeks, here is the blog that was created to acknowledge him and his life as we know it.   Saturday marked the close of the Secret Author contest submi

See It

See It It can be a really difficult concept to grasp for a vast majority of people, you know? Especially those who don't find themselves driven by a certain creative passion. I mean, I used to think..."Well, yeah. Of course there are going to be a few people who don't understand the idea behind it, and there's no way for me to effectively explain it to them in a way where they can truly absorb the concept in the same way that I can." But after years and years of looking for kindred spir

Make Me Feel Good

Life:  Here’s a conversation from my vacation… Sister: Try this book. I loved it.  Me: What’s it about? Sis: It’s dark and screwed up. Right up your alley. Me: Thanks? Sis: It’s a two-parter. The sequel’s supposed to come out early next year.  Me: What if it doesn’t? Sis: It will. The author says it will.  Me: I’ll wait. So I can read it all at once.  Sis: Haven’t you ever heard of delayed gratification? Me: Never been a huge fan.  Sis: Oh, I realize. I’ve known you
