    By Valkyrie

Should old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind? Should old acquaintance be forgot in the days of auld lang syne?   To answer the question in the song - no, old acquaintance should never be forgotten, especially when they were a force named Carlos Hazday.  It's hard to believe our friend has been gone for over a year now.  Based on the stories submitted for this tribute, it's clear that his influence lives on.  So, let's raise a glass and toast to auld lang syne and fond memories of

Weekly Wrap Up (Jan. 21 - Jan. 27)

Well just don't get close. Got home early Tuesday morning and felt a really bad cold come on about 4 hours later. Then proceeded to sleep about 20 to 22 hours per day up until yesterday. Went through all the stages of a really bad cold. Yesterday decided to do a Covid test and either someone on the plane or in Hawaii was kind enough to share . Feeling pretty good though, now. Many thanks and appreciations go out to Cia for covering me for the last 2 weeks  It is nice to have her to take ove

Loose Ends

Loose Ends There is one thing that I think can be horrendously frustrating in a story! And I’m guilty of doing it a few times, myself, despite my efforts to avoid it at all costs...because it makes you want to tear your own hair out at the roots! Hehehe, but for one reason or another...I changed my mind on a few major plot points in my story that took me in a different direction, and it left a lot of plot points left to dangle without any answers. Now that I’m re-doing my stories to put them

Of Pride and Power Chapter 21 is Live

Chapter 21 Somethings to mull about, England and offshoot cultures like United States have our democratic traditions based on principles established dating back to Magna Carta, at least in principle. In practice rather than theory or rhetoric, democracy can only function if the balance of power within a society can be exercised equally between various factions being represented. Monarchs and hereditary leaders in the past had more power than nobles (who served as bureaucrats and military of

Not Any Human Heart, My Human Heart

Last week I saw my own heart beating. I have seen a human heart beating before, but not my own. Many years ago I did a post-registration nursing course and part of that involved watching certain operations performed. I was watching a spinal operation. The surgeons accessed the patient’s spine via their ribs and deflating their lung. I looked over one of the surgeons’ shoulder and down into the patient’s open chest. There I saw that person’s heart actually beating, its rhythmic, synchro

I could’ve titled this entry “Doubt” again like the previous one. As the stakes of my story get higher, and the threads I’m weaving are only just beginning to come together, I have doubts again. More than ever before. Is it getting ridiculous? Is it still believable? Even a fantasy story has to be believable. I love these characters so much, and they’ve grown in me for such a long time, that it would end me if anyone hated them. I sound ridiculous. So to give my characters and story de
