    By Valkyrie

The GA Poetry Anthology is returning for 2025 with the theme "Diversity"!  It's the perfect theme to show off the diverse world of poetry and its various forms.  I look forward to reading what our site poets come up with!  Please note the earlier due date.  The extra few days will give me more time to get submissions ready for the big reveal in April to celebrate National Poetry Month.     2025 Poetry Anthology - Due: March 30, 2025 The 2025 Theme is “Diversity” Feel free to

Weekly Wrap Up (Feb. 27 - Mar. 5)

Well howdy ho good neighbours   So let me start off to say that all the blogs and comments from some of the Northern Hemisphere peeps stating that spring is starting to show up or it's coming... STOP  In my neck of the woods March and April I believe are our heaviest snowfall months of the years. Get a huge dump, melts off a few days later, huge dump, melts off a few days later, repeat. I sure we sell more windshield (windscreen  ) washer fluid than most places in the next two months.

Retcons

One of the many pitfalls that a writer might face when taking a more 'organic' approach to writing a story is possibly running into a flurry of decisions that you made in the heat of the moment and may change your mind on those decisions later on. When I talk about an organic approach, I mean having a certain structure and plot in mind...but still giving yourself room to create on the spot as new ideas come to mind. I definitely write that way, and I feel like it connects me to my stories in way

March 4th Round Robin

A Round Robin isn’t a fat bird.   It’s actually a lot of things, but the only interesting definition concerning prompts is that it is a form of storytelling. There are several variations. Let’s try two. PT# 27 Tell a story that begins at the same place as it ends.   PT# 28 Find at least one fellow author and tell a story together. Write its paragraphs or sentences alternatively.

Ask An Author 3.0 #14

I'm not sure about everyone else, but the weather in Kentucky's starting to warm up a bit. Well, at least for the moment. The chilly breezes were welcome for a short while, but I've had enough snow and ice. I'm ready for summer! Bring out the swimwear and IPAs! But you know what else we need? The March edition of Ask An Author! I'm all smiles with this month's featured author, although he might hunt me down after this introduction. One of GA's Signature Authors, Big Daddy @Carlos Hazday! Cooo, loo, coo, coo, coo, coo, coo, coooo!   Cooo, loo, coo, coo, coo, coo, coo, coooo! Take off you hosers!!! If you under the age of 40, and never watched SCTV or not Canadian, you probably have no clue what I'm quoting and wondering also what I'm drinking too! Although SCTV was moved to the US after a lot of years of success in Canada, I think it was the precursor to SNL but not sure how many watched it. I'll put in a post below a clip of this video that I was just serenad

Story Scope

It's something that I still struggle with more often than many of you may think. More times than not, I think in terms of a 'story'...and not in terms of a 'plot'. I've talked about this before in earlier articles, but just to reiterate really quick...the plot is the beginning, middle, and end of the story that you're trying to tell. The story is what exists OUTSIDE of the plot. So that could be a million stories all building up to a culmination of the story you're writing, and then reaches out

Happy Fairy Tale Day...

Who doesn't love a fairy tale?  They are the stuff of childhood, memories of the distant past, lessons for the present, and fodder for the future.   This coming weekend is Tell a Fairy Tale Day.  So, I proposed we tell each other some fairy tales, based on the tropes and ideals of the genre.  Hopefully these prompts will get you conjuring up your own scenarios of a child eating someone else's porridge or a lonely orphan girl who meets her prince, only to flee at midnight.   #25 - Story

Grammar Guide 8 - Regular vs Irregular Verbs

This week we are back to where the action is... verbs!  English is the Rube Goldberg Machine of languages and it has a lot of oddities.  One of those is this whole concept of regular vs irregular and verb forms. This also ties in with Grammar Guide 6's topic of Verb Tenses.  Be sure to check that out as well, if you missed it. Verbs have 5 Forms: Infinitive - the basic form of the verb ➡️ walk Simple Present - Used when the action is happening right now or or happ
