I'm not sure if this question has been asked before and answered, but my question is, has the story been completed? If not will it be completed? I hope so, as I said, it's a really great read. Tiger Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I share you love of the story. I've read it twice. The story, For the Love, is finished, though the evil goat has long teased us with the idea of a sequel, one that has yet to appear on GA.

I'm going through each chapter and fixing little typos and such, so it takes time. In the meantime, the entire story is available here. A sequel should appear this year.

You are probably so slow because you can't get over all the CLIFFHANGERS that you use in your stories as you re read them

There are no cliffhangers in my stories! After all, am I not known for my utter and total avoidance of all cliffhangers? So there. But.... I'll admit I did have fun reading the story. It's written in the shadow of the Hardy Boys series, Frank and Joe. The brothers' father, Fenton, was a detective with inside police connections and at times, experienced embarrassments due to the rash moves of his sons. The boys' best friend Chet Morton was a geek making all kinds of gismo, some of which often worked. The secret tunnel connecting the bookshop to the fundy church was pure Hardy Boys stuff. Great. It also seemed to be influenced by The Dukes of Hazzard with the 1969 Dodge Charger. I could almost smell the unburnt gasoline in the air as Steve pulled past 100 mph on the desert highway. I enjoyed reading the story from Chris' perspective. He was the outsider. He was the doubter of his relationships and his self-worth. It was fun to relax with him once he was accepted by his new family and then to tense up as Eric made his life hell again. As an author, CJames really knows how to show how evil people can be. Well written. A great love story. A real suspense thriller.

But you missed the point of the story Eric was the unsung hero of the whole thing I never related the Hardy Boys to it, but thinking back I can see that. I think Benji mentioned to me about the symbolism of The Dukes of Hazzard with Charger and the Jeep (guess that makes Chris playing the part of Daisy ) I saw the sheriff as Rosco Pekotrain/Boss Hog combined. The guys that had the shop and the tow truck were Cooter. I'm sure I'm missing more, but maybe CJ will reveal what parts he used from the classic TV show

It was indeed influenced, to a degree, by the Dukes of Hazzard TV show. I used to watch reruns of that when I was a kid, so that's why Steve had a 1969 Dodge Charger, and even had the airhorn that made the same sound. (and he mentions trying to make his car like the General Lee). The idea of a story where a car was a central character appealed to me, too. So did doing a tongue-in-cheek gay take on a classic redneck theme. Hrmmm, even I don't know how strongly I was influenced by the TV show. I made no conscious effort to base any of the character on the TV show, but there are similarities. A couple of guys with a tow truck, but that was more due to need than intent on my part. The Jeep was there because there would be a need for a vehicle that could handle 4-wheeling. I'm into 4-wheeling, so it was a natural pick for me. I can say for sure that the Hardy Boys weren't much of an influence on me; so far as I can remember, I've never watched any of their TV shows, nor read any books featuring them. The other theme I went for in For the Love was an oldstyle Western, such as the stake out on the camping trip, the showdown at the old mine and someone riding off into the sunset with the money at the end (the latter was standard for the hero in old Westerns, to the point of being cliche). But you missed the point of the story Eric was the unsung hero of the whole thing I never related the Hardy Boys to it, but thinking back I can see that. I never tried to base any characters on the TV show, with one exception: the car. We also didn't see it pulling off crazy jumps, because if you do that in a real car, you do all kinds of unfun thinks to the chassis and suspension. The two tow truck/mechanic guys were there in part for convenience for the plot (there were often repairs and towing to do), but I suspect the same was true of Cooter in the TV show. The Sheriff was a cold blooded killer and competent, two things that Roscoe wasn't. Now, we also had Reverend Thaddeus J. Emoe, the firebreathing fundie. Now, if you want to go tell Emoe (my editor) that a character based on him reminds you of Boss Hogg, you are a braver man than I. Oh, and a connecting but of trivia between Circumnavigation and For the Love: The big three-masted schooner that led the convoy in Circumnavigation was named "Thaddeus" and was out of Jacksonville, where Emoe is from. And it was heading for a literary convention.

It is believable in that i feel after the first chapter i would have gone through the same thing good Job!!

I too loved this story! And the sequel will probably come out in December of this year with our EVIL ERIC coming out as a Preacher. The 1st installment did have a hint of the Dukes of Hazards connotation to it. I'm looking forward to see where the evil goat takes us on this one.

Our esteemed goat is wrapping this story up sooner then that proposed date of yours, actually I think he added 3 chapters of just Shane and Trevor to quell some 'frustrated' readers. Otherwise I think everything is on schedule.
