As long as it's Haikus and Couplets... :P

Oh, and for those who actually do the whole Napowrimo: We could post the poem at our last entry on the 30th. What do you think?

Prefer couplets... i really dislike writing haiku, myself. like to read em though.

Sure why not post it then.. good idea

Yes, Adi ... such a hard task master!!

That sentence is sooo funny from a Swedish perspective. Speaking of smut...

And I love haikus! Poetry match made in heaven!

Ok Pup... lol. I see what you mean - hard task master - but it's something we say without the smuttiness attached. But now i have visions of a leather daddy, hard with a nice hot guy...omg...I wont go on...

And task has an interesting meaning in Swedish. Something you have and I lack.

And yes, leather... Master... Mmm....

Okay, enough of all this Renga talk for a second...and leather...and...oh, my.

Here is my offering for today...thanks for the prompt, Val!

APRIL 4

I want the gentle, kindly spring
its lovely greening song to sing,
as if to heal cold winter's spite,
and put  its meanness on the wing.

I long for days all golden bright,
suffused with softly glowing light,
as if the gods had sent a flame
to warm the globe from their great height.

I want an end to winter's frame
of teasing days, yet all the same,
as if to taunt with promise false,
delighting in a frozen game

I yearn for birds, their fluted calls
reminding us that life enthralls,
as if to mock the snowy king
whose frigid storming so appalls.

Nice one Parker...

Sorry... This is what happens. Me and my brain are easily led astray. Frightfully boring Monday this end.

With all the leather talk, I pre-release yesterday's poem of the day:

Black leather, smooth and worn,

molded around me in years.

I feel as anew born,

now the first outing nears.

You are waiting for me,

looking so hot in your gear.

Eyes are shining with glee,

I’m so happy we’re queer.

Soon we are on the road,

long, gray bands slicing green.

Spring sun, the world seems slowed,

as we speed past the scene.

A day spent with you, out,

I am left with no doubt.

Nice Adi!!

It's beautiful and sings in your usually flawless metre; reminds me of The Romantics. Love it, Parker.

Ok... here's my response to the daily prompt:

January’s bite is cruelest
Midwinter storms and heavy snow
Leave us in shades of black and white
Oh, where did all the colour go?

In this, the bleakest month of all
I'd rather hibernate not play
Snuggle under my eiderdown
Keep this desolate month at bay

January I'd rather skip
And the rest of old winter too
Give me summer's rainbows and warmth
I'm ready for a barbeque!

Nice! The kind of 'ode' mean old January deserves  :P I like the word 'eiderdown.' Can't frown and say eiderdown at the same time....

@ Adi:  I feel delight and exhilaration with this one. Hope you'll let me come with you on an outing one day next spring!

My offering for April 5...thanks again to Val for the prompts!

APRIL 5

Who is this crumpled, ancient hermit crab

with lifeless eye and rolling sidewise gait,

this grey, encrusted, solitary drab

whose mind is bent by recollection's freight?

He carries in his head the solemn weight

of cowardice and lies and visage droll;

his carapace festooned with whims of fate

to camouflage the iron in his soul.

Well hidden, living near the sunlit shoal

you find him after careful, patient quest;

and see that self-suppression took its toll

while in convention veiled he acquiesced.

And yet, this creature once in daylight ran

pursuing here another fearful man.

Always! The first sunny Sunday in spring was beautiful!

What a contrast to my delightful, sunny Sunday! Still, I feel sorry for the poor creature. Everyone lives in their own sea-shell aka shoes and does whatever for his/her very own reason. May a spring sun ray enlighten him and give him wings. (if he wants them)

Prompt for Day 5: Today, I challenge you to spend some time looking at the names of heirloom plants, and write a poem that takes its inspiration from, or incorporates the name of, one or more of these garden rarities.

I thought this was an odd prompt and wasn't going to do it. But I let it sit and drip through my brain and then found this sitting in the out tray:

Summer’s Rainbows

Oh, how I long for summer's bounty

Gifts from our overflowing garden

Beautiful things like apples and pears

Vegetables that make my mouth sing

But what most reminds me of summer

Are thick-stemmed heirloom tomatoes

Their wonderful colours and odd names

Like Old Yellow, Green Sausage, Pink Grape

I await their appearance with joy

Watching their colours slowly appear

From the laden branches we'll pluck them

Serve them sliced—rainbows on our plates

Oh, Tim, thank you! I am reminded of fresh sliced tomatoes with basil and mozzarella - tricolor beans newly picked - swiss chard in four colors, pink, gold, deep red, bright white - edible flowers -  as glorious a rainbow as I could wish for.  I loved this, and now you have me hungry!

Tim, I love the rainbow on my plate image. That's super strong, imo :)

That poem makes me hungry for summer too. Great job
