Phallic Art: Not The Real Thing, But Still....

Recommended Posts

This piece of art just caught my eye and made me realize, how many times artists use Phallic imagery in their work without actually going into literal Avante Garde/gay porn territory.

Now as a warning, do not use my thread to post actual ones in violation of GA rules, this is about art and design with this concept embedded within it

To me, it's really interesting. On a sexual conscious level, I get why I am interested with the whole single gay guy thing going for me :P Still, there are heterosexual artists that use phallic art and even designs (Washington Monument is an obelisk, but come on, who hasn't wondered why no one considered how much it looks like a phallus)

Have you guys ever noticed phallic imagery around you?

Anyway, this was the artwork that inspired me to create this thread

If you want phallic art then there's only one person you need to go to, H.R.Giger the man who designed the xenomorph from the Alien movies. Don't think I've seen a piece of his work that doesn't have anything phallic in it.

Phalluses and vaginas and other things that I don't think are used on this planet to reproduce with.

"Shiv Ling" is one of the famous phallic art of India and a sacred statue that is worshiped by Hindus in India. As we all we happen to see the live sexual positions as statues on, mostly, every temple from every village, town and city of India. We(Indians) happen to gain their sexual education mostly from these statues from ancient times.

How does that work for gay guys?

That's interesting though, I wonder if ancient people would look upon art, sculptures (especially those Greek nudes), and wondered "hey, I like that, wonder if I can find a guy like that?"

This reminded me of Khajuraho :) What is so cool about the erotic sculptures is that they hold such a symbolic meaning: the creative force of the gods in the birth of the universe.

Of course, when the British saw this temple for the first time, they were really scandalized :gikkle:

This is why English guys are such freaks in bed! All that sexual repression! :P

Indian Veda's and some of the ancient sculptures educated about a thing called "Auparashtika". According to this a Hermit monk performing auparashtika(fellatio) on a princely visitors. That means some kings get orals from monk when they visit ashramas some time. Even they might practice with princes according to some myths.

The Last Airbender sucks, but it can be pretty funny... unintentionally of course :gikkle:

Exhibit A:

VWwG7Po.jpg I laughed so hard when someone pointed this out to me

Lol, some people are size queens even in cartoons, (Technically, it's American Anime) :P

Now to really warp your sense of art, don't worry it's all clean and if you think you see something dirty, then you have a dirty mind :P :

The chocolate figurines for St. Nicholas should be fallic symbols too. Somehow I don't really like this theory. :-P

And the mostly wooden memorial headstones ("kopjafa" in Hungarian) look certainly the same as the obelisks mentioned before.
