The soup thing is a problem. It's spanishness is essential to the story as it provides a segue into the discussion of Juanita. And, it needs to be hot after the cold of the lake/park. I checked on the internet for alternative spanish soups, but, most couldn't be eaten right away, they needed a couple of hours of cooking. I didn't think to look for Mexican soup....maybe there will be a workable recipe. Otherwise, Milo could warm up some soup already prepared by Juanita. That would still lead to discussion of her role in Milo's life. Here is an interesting one:

I am only concerned that it is from an English site....and one definition of 'hades' is having an English chef!

That's what he did:

it was an interesting change of pace when he talked me into trying a soup that Juanita made that he called Gazpacho.

And from what I can tell, there are ways to serve Gazpacho hot.

It doesn't seem so far fetched that he simply likes the soup hot.

I'm not saying I don't like Nelson, I like him a lot. I'm just saying that he's immature. Which is a good thing for the story, actually, since he doesn't have the problems that Owen, Rory, or Quinn have. I'm not complaining at all.

As for gazpacho -- there's gazpacho and gazpacho and gazpacho again. The original, basic gazpacho is made up and put in a cool place to be eaten later (no cooking at all). But there's all sorts of gazpachos, including hot ones. Historically, there was gazpacho before there were tomatoes and peppers in Spain, but I don't you'll find more than a small handful of modern gazpachos without tomatoes and peppers these days.

I'm sort of more into food than a person ought to be, and the gazpacho didn't trouble me. I didn't think of it as evidence of Juanita's Mexicanness, I thought of it as evidence of her sophistication, though I know there is gazpacho in at least one of my Mexican cookbooks.

*Jumps into the Great Gazpacho Debate of 2006*

Ummm, I'm sure like most cooks, Juanita can make dishes from many different regions & countries of the world.

My Bet? Dom was hungry when he wrote that chapter and was thinking of Gazpacho soup

I disagree, I don't think we'll see another Janie in Hailey. I think the real problem's going to be either Caleb or Joe.

Maybe both of them. To me they represent the ordinary straight guy, self-assured (Caleb) or frustrated at times (Joe). I'd like to see how they'd react to learning that Nelson is gay.

It doesn't seem so far fetched that he simply likes the soup hot.

Whether Milo is justified to do so or not, we have simply to put up with the fact that he eats his Gazpacho hot. Period.

OK, my predictions for pairings at the end....

Jame and The Goat. (I hope the Goat proves to have higher standards than this!)

I like it. I like it. And I'd rather talk about the goat than soup. :funny:

But seriously, why are we randomly talking about soup when we could be talking about the HOT SEX?

I'm sorry for bringing it up. I'm just bit of a culinary snob, but I didn't mean for it to become a whole thing. Sex is good, too.

:read: I have a prediction............

Jame is going to go off when he learns that Caleb, Nelson, Joe and Hailey went to that party, and that's when he's going to start following Milo and Nelson around. He'll go to Caleb, Joe and Hailey with what he's found, Caleb will put a stomping on him, and in the middle of trying to break up the fight, Milo and Nelson admit to their relationship. Caleb, Hailey and the goat stop talking to Nelson and Milo, but Joe is supportive. Eventually, the goat realizes that his relationship with Nelson shoudn't suffer because he's gay, but it's too late. The Trusts and Nelsons family (I cant remember their last name) slaughter him and eat him for din din :)

What the crap Dom... my external hard disk drive is still packed away in my laptop case, and that's where all of my porn is! How dare you get Jr. all rowdy... Damn damn damn, that image of a naked-from-the-waist up Milo standing in a light snowfall is so... *shudders*

Also, as far as the soup thing goes, in my experience everything is best served after slow cooking at a high temperature. If I stay at my current school next year I'll have an apartment with 3-4 other guys. We're excited about this because the apartments have gas stoves and ovens, and there's nothing better for a study snack than oven-cooked bagel bites or stove-top boiled Macaroni and Cheese... yum!

Finally up to date with this one and I am starting to think Caleb may have an idea that Nelson is gay. He is always having those dreams and he can seem perceptive about some things and i think that maybe he has some idea about Nelson I think when he talks about Nelson and his lack of girlfriends he is testing Nelson's response or pushing Nelson to tell him he is gay. Totally off topic but just wanted to put that out there.

:)

I love this story, I find Nelson likeable and think Milo needs someone like him as a boyfriend, very sweet chapter.

Be careful my friend, or someone will combine Goat Soup and Sex...then you could read about Nels sipping his favorite Goat Soup while Milo's under the table making him feel all happy.

(All this taking place of course while everyone else is outside watching Mr. Trust get married to Emily.)

Don't you DARE cook my avatar!!! :P

It's too late, Dom's read the post, the seed is planted. It's for the betterment of society, the goat is clearly a menace.

On another note, Milo and Nelson should announce their engagement at the upcoming wedding, it'd be great.

ACK! But... But... I thought it was rumored that Dom didn't read these threads until after he'd finished a story?:blink::blink:

Besides, cooking and eating my avatar would not be a healthy meal! Pixels cause indigestion...

Now, that WOULD be great!!! :2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs:

What an absolutely perfect wedding present for Trust, Sr.... :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I wouldn't dream of it. I like goats. And pozole (pork and hominy soup) is much much better. I hope nobody has a pgilet for an avatar -- I wouldn't know: I never look at them.

Another thought about Nelson's personal development: it's one of the things I like about these stories: the kids are actually kids. They work so well as stories about people.

Well I loved this chapter. It was one of the sweetest Dom has written. I said in my last posting (last chapter) that not one of hte characters was likeable. Dom has changed that. Nelson in naively annoying. I like him a lot when he's not drinking. His friends are coing around. But mostly I like this chapter for its romanticism. In DD Dom wrote a huge chapter-part about holding hands that was one of the most erotic things I have read. I think the growth of the relationship between Nelson and Milo here was almost as erotic, culminating in the sex, and finally Milo's admission that they are boyfriends.

My mental image of Milo shirtless and barefoot (especially barefoot) was especially hot. In fact, there were several mentions of bare feet in this (I love bare feet!) that got me hopeful! I know, I'm a perv. At least I don't lust after the goat. Although the soup sounds intersting.

I did love this chapter. I'm eager for the rest of the story. Excellent work, Dom.

Yes, that was definitely a theme in this chapter. I like how Dom gets across Milo
