This is the note we get every week about what we've received:

Produce for the week: August 26

Kabocha Squash (Simcoe, ON) // Surplus
White Peaches (Beamsville, ON) // Small blemishes
Pears (Beamsville, ON) // Too small or small blemishes
Nectarines* (Beamsville, ON) // Too small or small blemishes
Burbank Plums (Beamsville, ON) // Too small or small blemishes
Field Beefsteak Tomatoes (Simcoe, ON) // Surplus
Cauliflower** (Gormley, ON) // Surplus
Baby Bok choy (Mount Albert, ON) // For variety
Napa Cabbage** (Mount Albert, ON) // Surplus
Beets (Newmarket, ON) // Too small

Sun Tan Peppers (Simcoe, ON) // A slight tinge of red
Baby Cucumbers (Leamington, ON) // Too wonky

Notes:
• We got a call from a couple who own an acre of land in Simcoe saying
they had unexpectedly grown way too many kabocha squash, and that
the squash had gotten way too big due to the heavy rain. We couldn’t
let them go to waste, so we hope everyone can make good use of
them!
• Sun Tan peppers are rejected from the green pepper harvest since they
have a very slight (sometimes unnoticeable) tinge of red caused by
increased sun exposure.

• Everything except the tomatoes, pears, and squash should be
refrigerated immediately to preserve shelf life (the peaches can be left
out if they’ll be consumed within a day).
• *We had a limited supply of nectarines today (that’s the way it goes
sometimes in the produce rescue business), so some boxes had extra
peaches as a substitute.

Sounds and looks amazing.

Well bad news and good news...

Bad news... my son didn't get the job he interviewed for a few weeks ago. Dumb ass mistake on his part.

Good news.... his current boss is going to recommend him to be promoted to assistant manager with a $3/hr raise. Not bad for a 19yr old's part time gig.

@mollyhousemouse Good luck tomorrow with Phil's appointment.

@Mikiesboy Good luck figuring out your squash and I think you guys hit the jackpot with your veggie delivery service.

This has been a long week. I've got another conference call with both upper managers and the maintenance guy who won't do what he's supposed to. *sigh*

Hope everyone enjoys their evening.

I see it now that I googled it. I even came across a recipe for cooking it.

https://nomnompaleo.com/post/11136213353/roasted-kabocha-squash

PS: I love the fact they’re all Ontario grown.

me too .. we've had so much local food, it's really great.  Michael and i have enjoyed all the types of squash we've had. Cant see us not liking this.. i'll roast this one and all the little beets we got.  The squash we'll have for dinner and the beets i'll pickle .. we love beets.

I need to try and find this....

It says it has a similar texture and taste to roasted chestnuts, which I love!

If you can find this one...  https://www.farmersalmanac.com/delicata-squash-33154

buy it, roast it and taste it. We added nothing, it was creamy and sweet and i swear we both stood in the kitchen and looked at each other and said OMG that is f'g amazing.

We bought as many as we could get.

It's been added to my "stuff we need" list.

I'm glad this week is coming to an end. It's been a long one.

I really do like my job, it's putting in 50+ hours a week that's exhausting. Technically I'm only required to work 45, but my bank account likes the extra hours better.

I've been sticking with my commitment to go to the gym 4 or 5 days a week, so that's taking up a good chunk of some of my evenings, but it's worth it.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Thought I'd share my sunrise at work today here.

Glad this is Friday - it's been an unusually frantic and stressful start to the semester, not helped by the Dept. Head not really "getting it" [insert any important topic for 'it']

My mom loves butternut squash, but yes, peeling it is a pain, so I’m going to look for this one next time. :)

i roast squash for the most part.. much easier to scrap it out after roasting, or cut into thin slices and roast with the skin on, just don't eat it. We didn't eat the Delicata skins .. but the flesh inside is amazing.

So today is travel day. Told her load horse by 10 am. It's now 9, no sign of her or her gear. I call, she just got out of bed, she did not think 10 am was a good time, it's only 1.5 hr drive. Yes, it's 1.5 in her sporty little coup doing 5 to 10 mph over the limit. With a horse in a trailer it's more like 2.5 to 3 including water stops, unless you want to shake the horse off her feet.

She's a moron pure and simple. ~drops the microphone~

Even when you’re “bad” you’re good. I just know this to be true. ;)
