CassieQ Posted January 24, 2025 Posted January 24, 2025 I guess with the doing away of status updates, I should find a new way to keep track of my word count for my upcoming project. I can’t remember the count of my last status update, sadly. The last word count I could find was 150K in November 2023. I was expecting to have Hazardous done by the end of 2024. Obviously, due to job upheavals and needing to move, it did not happen, but I have high hopes for 2025. Current word count is 183,000. Revised estimate on completion: 200K or above. God help me. 2 2 1

Moving absolutely sucks. I'm right there with you. Changed jobs, had to move, then 8 months later the landlady decided to be an extra- level *itch. She was a pain in the ass. So we up and moved again. Thrown in the middle of this were health issues and hurricanes. I started a new story last January. I don't know how long it will take to finish. I'm only 8 chapters in and I usually crank out 25-35 chapters. This one is challenging me as I know the direction I want it to go in but finding the motivation to write is almost nonexistent. On a more positive note.... the sun finally poked through the clouds today! It's been raining and overcast all week, plus cold for Florida. Thankfully the weekend is supposed to go back to normal and I can ditch the jackets. Have a good weekend everyone! 2 3

I was feeling good and confident at the beginning of 2024 and was trucking right along. Then everything went belly up over the summer and I didn't really start writing on Hazardous consistently until December. I'm excited to wrap it up so I can finally share it with everyone. 2 2

That's your normal???? 😱 Edit: Unlesss I misread it and you meant 20 something chaps in 8 months. Edited January 24, 2025 by Thirdly 1 4

I did 40 chapters in 4 months which was insane. For whatever reason, the characters were speaking to me loud and clear. Not the case with this current story. 1 1 2

Still impressive! The fastest I ever wrote was a chapter a week back when I was a full-throttle pantser (I am a half plotter/half pantser presently) that didn't even have any middles or endings in sight. I didn't even have a mist of an idea of a middle or ending for any of my first stories. This was when I started realizing that maybe I shouldn't post until the stories were completed first, but I didn't act on it whatsoever. 😅 This was advised almost everywhere on GA when I first began and I didn't pay it any heed until around less than 8 years ago maybe? 🤔 It's never until it happens to you or affects you that you realize "maybe, just maybe, there's a reason for this advice." In my case, not 1, but 4 of the most popular stories I followed on other sites stopped updating towards the last literal chapters, SO CLOSE to the end...4 different writers! 4 very different stories! After hunting them down and trying to do my part in motivating them to just finish their work for years and years (more than a decade! true story!), I realized I didn't want to keep posting incompleted work myself (CECO being the exception because a cowriter walked out on it and gave me full reigns, so I had to pause)...not that I have that kind of following that more than one reader would try to hunt me down with pitchforks messages of motivation to finish any of my stories, there's no more worrying about this at all for me now. 😂 It's a double-edged sword because posting "live" holds you accountable and sometimes that can be a motivation in and of itself, so I understand anyone who still chooses to post incomplete work. My personal feelings are as follows: I fret more about having an unfinished project in front of my eyes than being burned out on any specific project. I work on no more than 3 alternating projects at a time (though my focus is on one of those three at a time, not all 3 at once) I have fully accepted that any projects out of the hundreds that live rent-free in my head that are NOT completed in this lifetime will have to wait for my NEXT lifetime (plot bunnies continue to fornicate in my mind and they seem to have infinite space). 3 1
lawfulneutralmage Posted January 26, 2025 Posted January 26, 2025 At the moment, I have no motivation to write either. But I should try starting another. I just dislike unfinished business. 3
CassieQ Posted March 5, 2025 Author Posted March 5, 2025 Current word count is 187,300. I've done better, but it could have been worse. Considering how crazy this February has been, it would have been a lot worse. I'll take it. It's all downhill from here. 4
