A very sad chapter and Aunt May will be missed. Her stubbornness proved to be her downfall. I can only hope that Marc and Sawyer can get past Marc's hesitance to face the new reality, that his secret may not have been so secret to some but not all. One has to wonder just where his parents are and what sorts of monkey wrenches they'll toss into the mix...That and I was very wrong about Rachel, I hope she finds the peace and comfort she needs... Then there's Bruce, Marc's mother and Finn...lots of unresolved red herrings there with nine chapters left...

Well done Sir and very much appreciated!!

Color me hooked, looks to be very interesting to say the least... Truer words never spoken.....Amen Cia!!! Plus the cliffhanger from the last book was brutal. Who did that? It was a good thing he had a rule never to read a series with less than three completed books. Otherwise, he never knew what crazy things an author might leave the characters facing while their readers were stuck holding their breaths.

Confronting dear old Dad...I suppose there are some worse things...
-
Well, this story certainly took an interesting turn...
-
The boys are learning in the best possible fashion and truly are getting some immersion into another culture and history..
-
Well now, they have managed to cross a bridge and there's no turning around...

Once again we are treated to a great tale so very well crafted from one of the best authors on this or any other site. We all wear masks in our daily lives and interactions with others...what happens when we let those masks slip??...Read on and enjoy!!

So nice to see that the boys and by extension...the family begin to meld..

We still have to come to terms as to why the Duke of Suffolk, i.e. Grainger's father, is so "hot to trot" as to the disposition of Lady Kendall's estate...I can't get it out of the back of my mind that somehow, someway Freddie and Davina have come close to not only bankrupting themselves but other family members who may be on the 'hook' to settle their debts... At present the Guild may be temporarily impotent, but I am sure they have very long memories... Anyone tell me where in the heck is Bertie???

I hope you realize that behavior comes from a very deep well if insecurity...myself, being the youngest in my family suffered much the same and the sweetest revenge was to in life, outshine everyone of them. I never said anything about my successes, as actions spoke so much louder than any word I could have uttered...Mom always said, let sleeping dogs lay...

I'm gonna have to read this chapter again in the morning, so many undercurrents and eddies in the river of Grainger's life... Cavendish is properly chastised, Grainger's father is on double secret probation, and as I suspected...his mother just make a strong ally. Good on Daventry and Cavendish agreeing to work with Grainger to sort out the financial aspects and protect his wealth The issue of his son's title is rectified, but what was the impetus for Lord Heathford to to bypass Lord Crawden? Grainger aptly realized that if he did not renounce the title in his son's name, it opened a Pandora's box...with dangerous implications...a grateful sovereign appreciates the gesture and assures Grainger something will be done for his son in return... Caroline has outsmarted herself and while Grainger refuses to kick her to the curb or to consider a divorce...at this time...much to the relief of the king...Let's hope she isn't pregnant... And the Duke of Cumberland seems to have been effectively neutered...bring on the burgeoning artist!!! Thanks for the quick turnaround with this chapter Lord Arbor...we need to see Grainger meet with Lady Kendal's lawyers ASAP...hint...hint...

Finn redeemed his ugly assed self for a moment...It is going to take a whole lotta more human acting behavior...need to understand the following a bit more... Finn paused, one foot on the porch steps. “I‘m not mistaking what you said, Sawyer.” He ran his hand down the side of a fluted column. In that instant, his touch reminded Sawyer of Marc‘s, almost reverent. “I understand that sometimes you‘d rather avoid an argument, but you deliberately misled mom and me about your intentions for this place. I don’t like seeing her hurt.” Then there's a bit more to Rachel's backstory, possibly an ex stalking her... Then there's this brutally soulful confession from Marc...it's painful to wonder the complex emotions behind his comment... Marc paused before answering. “I’ve been ‘not good enough’ before. I’ve been ‘not what was expected’ and, while we’re at it, I also have a history of being a 'fucking disappointment'.” Marc wrapped his arms around his torso in a tight hug. “I don’t like losing people." How much is derived from the apparent neglect from his parents, were they incapable of raising a child because they couldn't become adults, settle down? How do they afford to spend years away without contact, lost to drugs or heaven forbid...in prison? Than god for the timely intervention of Bruce and confirming the raison d'etre for the internet...that I laughed so hard, that I had to change my underwear is/was entirely coincidental...that's my story and I'm sticking to it... “Oh good, cause that’s what the Internet is for.” Sawyer took a quick mental stock of the contents of his cardboard box. “Don’t you dare throw those out. They’re vintage. They have historical value. And they make me nostalgic." “That's more than slightly disturbing. But I guess that means I’m bougie now. I alphabetized them and gave them a spot of honor on the top shelf of my entertainment center, between Architectural Digest 100 and Chicken Soup for the Soul.”

What is impressive about this chapter is just how the boys are able to use critical thinking to ask questions that expand their horizons... I'm interested to know what it was about the paintings Carl saw, in the hotels art gallery, that he was curious about...

Like the last chapter an emotional start, I have a feeling that things will work out quickly for the boys...Dad may have some groveling to do still...

A very intriguing start and a great chapter!!

Aunt May is too stubborn for her own good, sounds like she is having serious, undiagnosed, issues that may be correctable with proper care...at this point the only way she's gonna get the help she needs is when they have to call the EMT's and the ambulance... At the rate Sawyer and Marc are going the pizza will be cold and the beer warm... Finn, never would have let him stay the night, let him find his own lodging... If memory serves me correctly, the house was left to Sawyer...is Finn thinking of trying to challenge the will...if that's the case...perhaps Bruce could see the stick lodged in Finn's ass becomes inoperable...I don't trust and am very suspicious of Finn's motives...then again what does the boys mother have to do with the disposition of the will and property.... Marc...you're an expert in renovations, it's a shame you can't see the closet door is open... Get Aunt May the medical attention she needs!!!!!

Well told and well done Sir....
-
As much as a question of what could go wrong, it is also a question of what could go right as well...As with Pandora, the box has been opened..
-
All good things come to those who wait...and sticking to your guns brings it's own rewards...sometimes...

The boys are getting the best cultural and history lessons possible!!!
