Then I guess there is something wrong with me - because I have decided that I will no longer tollerate one individual putting me down in front of a room full of people. It becomes your problem when you are the target of an opinionated ass who feels no remorse in making you feel like shit in front of 20 holiday guests. I don't understand people like that either - but to condemn people for deciding that they are no longer putting up with the mistreatment and telling us we should just shut up and make peace is rather short sighted. Perhaps it is time for the ass to shut up so there is nothing to make peace over. And to tell people they have no value in your eyes because they do not value family is rather cold, short sighted, and downright rude. Ever hear the adage about walking a mile in another's shoes? I think it is great you have a familial group that treats each other with love and respect. That does not make me wrong for refusing to allow one person to disrupt my life any longer. Thirty years of "keeping the peace" is enough - compromise is defined as EACH person giving a little. I have given enough, as have many others.

There is an advantage to being the host household Aditus. If things get too out of hand you can escort the pest from the house. Last time I did that it resulted in several (very peaceful) years in which his mom would not speak to me. And I don't think it's the language that is evil...

LOL. As you get older you will begin to realize maturity and age have little to do with each other. Just as Will is mature for his age, my father was the perpetual 19 year old when he passed at the age of 77.

I have been "blessed" with two - yes two - mother in laws. Hubby's step mom isn't a problem, although she seems to think that we are not related to her since she just married his dad. We get along well enough and i usually enjoy time spent over with her and her son and his family. Now, his biological mom is a different story. I have never been good enough for her boy, she lets me know that every time we are together, and i dread every single moment i am forced to spend with her. I usually come away at best with a headache and aching jaw from grinding my teeth in an effort to keep my trap shut. Sometimes that is a losing proposition. On those occasions i come away with a husband who thinks i was completely right but should have kept quiet and preserved the peace. You very much CAN choose people you wish to include in your family, and I have on many occasions throughout my life. I haven't however found a way to separate myself sufficiently from the ones mother nature chose to stick me with!

Nice to see the pre- asshole Lark coming out again. I was beginning to think Scott was irredeemable. Its also nice to see Will develop a friendship not based on sex. Would be nicer if it wasn't loosely based on the lie of Austin being his boyfriend to save face in front of Kai, but at least they are being honest with everyone except Kai and Ron. Will needs to learn that not all friends can or should be friends with benefits Thank you for yet another healing chapter. I was honestly afraid we wouldn't see this for a day or two after Mizzou fell apart last night..

It's nice to see Tony finally starting to pull his head out of..... grow up a bit. He has a long way to go, but he's trying now. As Tim pointed out, in CAP time it hasn't even been a month since the horrific losses the family endured. The bones may have been set, to paraphrase JP's imagery, but the healing has barely begun. There will be times where sharp pains will remind each of them that it will be a long road to a new normal. Thank you for yet again giving us the "inside scoop". There are so many who have only an abstract feeling of what went on post 9-11. I compare it to a fatal car accident on a major highway. For those driving past, it is a fascination, they may feel badly for the victims, but then they move on and go back to normal. For the people involved, normal may involve wheel chairs and funerals. For them "normal" will never be the same.
