Damn, I thought "Code Pooh" meant a guest had a bowel movement on a ride.

People of the Jewish and Islamic religions aren't supposed to eat any part of a pig, which you cover by stating religious concerns. Other than that, I think ham is a safe bet.

I believe they'll agree not to wear any jewelry most of the time, except formal occasions and when they're alone. They also realize, as you did, that the rings and other jewelry might be a problem if they're forced to transition. Good catch though.

I'm happy to share this story with you, and even though some suspected this was coming after Devin talked Mac into having his ring fingers sized at the start of the school year, I thought they might have forgotten by now. Besides, I thought it was a good way to start the New Year.

Chapter 38 – A New Year’s Eve to Remember The McCaskill’s SUV pulled in the driveway a little after 1:00 on Saturday, December 30th, the day before the New Year’s Eve dinner. I went out to greet them, as well as to help carry their suitcases inside. This time instead of just having a suitcase, Devin and Pa had black garment bags for their suits, and Ma had a clear gown bag for the dress she’d be wearing tomorrow night. I took Ma and Pa’s suitcases inside, while Devin carried his suitca

If you can afford to, Comicality's Mom can still use a little financial support, which she lost when Comicality died. Here's the link to GoFundMe: Support for Comicality's Mother in a Very Difficult Time

These costumes were used by physicians during the bubonic plague. They thought they thought the Black Death was carried by bad air, so with these masks it would keep the bad air from getting to them, although I'm not sure how they justified that fact, since they'd breathe the same air, although it might take it a little longer to get through those masks. -

I'm another one who has to see and interact with the changes first, and then I'll let you know what I think of them. -

Once again, this word comes from the Greek: onkos (tumor or mass) and logy (study of). I've seen a lot of doctors recently, but this is one doctor I hope I never have to go to. -
Thank you, and I'm glad you've enjoyed The Castaway Hotel series. Unlike most hotels, I've refused to raise the rates there and everyone is welcome. I think you've figured that last part out after reading the series. Welcome officially.

And now you'll be able to comment on chapters and stories that you read, as well as to be able to click on the emojis to let the authors know what you think of their work. I'd say welcome, but you've been here for some time now, so instead I'll say congratulations for taking the next step and becoming an active member.

I hope none of the members of our GA family were effected by either Hurricane Helene or Milton - or both, and if they have I hope no loss of life occurred with any family members and they're able to replace any items that were lost or damaged. And Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Canadian GA members and visitors, AND Happy Halloween to all. I know it's more than two weeks away, but an early warning can help you prepare for the ghots, ghouls, and other beasties you many encounter on Halloween night.

Steve, since you couldn't see either the Northern Lights or the comet, did you ever think your life might be like the Truman Show? You might have just been living in a large movie studio all this time.

neurologist - Word of the Day - Sun Oct 13, 2024
Bill W commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
I see a neurologist about my Trigeminal Neuralgia. The trigeminal nerve is a three-branch nerve (hence the tri prefix), which is on each side of your head. The lhree branch affect different areas of the face: ophthalmic (V1) branch affects the forehead, scalp, and front of the head, including eyes and eyelids maxillary (V2) branch affects the upper lip, teeth, gums, cheeks, nose, land lower eyelids madibular (V3) affects lower lip, teeth, gums, lower jaw. It also affects chewing, biting, and swallowing. I'm having trouble with the trigeminal nerve on the right side of my face in the maxillary and mandibular branches. It means I would get excrutiating electric like shocks when blowing my nose, touching my upper lip, and eating. However, I still have occasional bouts with the problem, but now it's mostly under control using two different medications, although they gave me double-vision, so I do most things with one eye closed or using an eye patch. -

gastroenterologist - Word of the Day - Sat Oct 12, 2024
Bill W commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
To put it simply, a gastroenterologists is a medical doctor who specialize in the digestive system, from the esophagus to the colon. They diagnose and treat conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, polyps, chronic heartburn, acid reflux, and hemorrhoids. They can also detect and prevent certain types of cancer. Gastroenterologists perform endoscopic procedures to diagnose and treat conditions. During an endoscopy, a gastroenterologist uses a camera attached to a long, thin tube to look inside the body. They can also perform minimally invasive procedures to treat hemorrhoids. Gastroenterologists are knowledgeable about treating hepatitis because the liver is an important part of digestion and metabolism. They can also diagnose and treat celiac disease. -

My colonoscopy was performed by a general surgeon, in case he had to remove polympsl or do a biopsy along the way, but my colon was as clean as a whistle, thanks to the powerful laxatives he had me take the day before, and not a polyp in sight. -
endocrinologist - Word of the Day - Fri Oct 11, 2024
Bill W commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
The endocrine glands are called ductless glands, and their etymorlogy (word origin) comes from 'endo' (within or inside) and 'krine' (separate or secrete), that's because various glands secrete hormones into the bloodstream. Those include the pituitary, thyroid, adrenals, hypothalamus, and ovaries. The term endocrine was coined by Ernest Henry Starling (1866-1927) to differentiate between hormones secreted internally from those secreted externally. This merely capsulizes some of the things in @sandrewn's post, while also adding the name of the person first using the term endocrine. -

Bill W commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
Endocrinologist comes from the Greek words 'endon' or 'endo' (within or inside) and 'krinein' or 'krine' (to function, separate, or secrete). And at @sandrewn's post explains what the endocrine system is and what it's function is.
