Xaxazana, EC, South Africa. isiXhosa, the language of most inhabitants of the Eastern Cape, uses the letter X a lot. It sounds like a click, that you make on the side of your mouth with your tongue and cheek.

Carey returned to his study table in the library after returning several books to the stacks. Notebooks and his laptop stacked neatly. Empty coffee cups and power bar wrappers dumped in a nearby garbage can. His last semester as an undergrad. Most students had already left campus for MLK weekend. Carey lagged behind, partly to finish up some loose ends, but mostly to put the finishing touches on his application to the RAND Corporation’s associate program. After a headhunter called him out

St. Vincent's illness must be short-lived. I believe he replaces Spencer as First Lord in a couple of years. He had an extraordinarily long lifespan for this time, dying at 88.

April 21, 2004 Escorial Palo Alto, CA Will I opened the door to find my father there with Jake behind him, as if he were Jake’s human shield. “Welcome home,” Dad said, and embraced me warmly. I thought it was nice that he’d taken off his tie and shed his jacket, as if to announce that he was no longer Mr. Corporate America. “I missed you,” I said warmly. Dad looked at Travis, then at Jake, then back at Travis, pretty much just like I had, then finally kicked h

Poor Ian. It’s hard to have so many expectations at just five years of age. He may have the smarts, but he doesn’t have the maturity yet, as witnessed b6 his meltdown about learning the technicalities of the language of music. I don’t quite get the determination to make Gaea like Earth II. Things had gone so wrong there, I would think they would want a completely fresh start. Name your cities and locations after places on Earth I. That’s fine. But make a break and make a new society with more care for each other and the world on which you are now living!

With new years eve and it's associated festivities just a day away, Andrew was keen to get an update on arrange-ments at Blue Bay, The Cameron and the Drakensberg Resort. He had, very deliberately, not communicated with any of the properties while at the game lodge knowing that if anything pressing came up they would contact him. Not that he micro managed - much - but he just wanted to be up to speed. They would be at Blue Bay this year and were looking forward to it, so while Ryan was on 'baby

April 21, 2004 Escorial Palo Alto, CA Will The big Escalade limo drove up the stately drive and stopped at the porte cochère to deposit its passengers. I got out and smiled, happy to be home, while Travis followed me, pausing to stare at this massive house. “This place is like the Buck Mansion,” he said. My first reaction was to point out that Escorial was way nicer than the Buck Mansion, but I managed to stop myself from doing that and thus sparking an argument over

“Of course not. I discovered it when I stripped almost all of his magic. Which is why he wants Parallax’s star.” “You tortured you own brother and stripped his magic?” The feeling in the pit of Beckett’s stomach, the almost living entity he’d been feeling since his erupted, recoiled. “Of course not. It was council business. He’s a criminal who lives in Eshya. It was for the safety of others.” Kastor delicately put his bowl down, wiping the side of his mouth with his thumb and licking i

The roads were clear enough the following Tuesday for the boys to go back to school. Caleb and Bryan certainly weren't ready to return to the grind of the American education system; however, Steve was absolutely ready to return. He loved the boys, but he was a little tired of playing babysitter, as cabin fever was starting to take hold, pushing the brothers into fighting over the tiniest slights. Bryan and Kenny got out of Diego's truck and went their separate ways. Both boys had grown a li

I read GA off of the android app and have had issues with ads popping up like "click bait" stories you would read from FB. Prior to a couple of days ago I would get an ad at the top of the story, then an occasional ad page when I'd change chapters. One particular story, "Sigil of a Wolf", Topher Lydon, won't even show content past the intro paragraph, just a white bar with ads over where the content should be (I read in dark mode), but no words. Is this due to an update in the app? I'd really like to get back to my stories.

You know, I wonder what that book was Ross was writing in yesterday? Does he keep a diary too? That would be universally weird, right? The boy next door that I adore keeps a journal just like me. I have no prior knowledge of such a notebook or if it is, in fact, a diary. Speaking of journals, I'm about halfway through this one. I should ask Mam to pick me up another one. Don't think for one minute that I'm abandoning you; you have been here at the most awkward juncture of my entire life. All my

<>><<> Is there truth amid the pain like motorcycles in the rain wet through to our skin again and again, we seek to win What is truth, and what is life we cannot outrun the strife tears fall from heartbroken eyes we tell and tell and tell the lies There is nowhere we can run we live and die by the gun our tattooed skin we can’t shed where are the drugs to stop the spread Words are the only sword I own and I don’t stand here alone bl

In my old age (82), my memory is sometimes not great. Please tell me, what is the "project" that is being built? Alternatively, direct me to the book and chapter where that is explained.

April 24, 2004 The Beverly Hills Hotel Beverly Hills, CA Will It was hard to imagine a bigger bombshell could be dropped into this group: Travis’s grandfather, Tom Buck, was his father, not his grandfather. How totally messed up was that? He’d been sleeping with his daughter-in-law! I tried to conjure up a mental picture of him, curious as to whether he looked like Travis or Jake, but he’d always had a beard, and that seemed to dominate my memory of him. I looked over at

Maurice, Duke and Elector of Saxony, had been mulling over the latest message from the Imperial envoy of Charles V, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. It was a final demand for the surrender of his Schmalkaldic League, consisting of Protestant princes in the Holy Roman Empire's component regions. The emperor and his ally Pope Peter II had significant advantages in terms of advanced equipment such as horseless iron carriages, flying machines that could circumvent city walls and drop bombs, cannons
