Having been born on the first of April is a pain in the a**!

Ben Mears is referred to as his school's nerd magnet: a nickname he picked up from due to his ability to attract the "unwanted" elements of the student body. Ben has never minded because he has felt unwanted himself. For the most part, he keeps to himself and with his small collection of friends, avoiding confrontation with the school jocks and bullies. That all changes the day he meets Sam: a boy who is suffering some of the worst bullying Ben has ever seen in his high school career.

Phillip tried to live the straight life; it didn't work, but he wouldn't trade his two kids for anything. Now he just has to find them — something he hasn't managed in the six years since his ex-wife kidnapped them. His twin brother has been encouraging him to start living his life again, but how's he going to find someone with all his baggage? He never expected to meet Vance. But... can he handle it?

“Life is full of Hard Knocks, kid, it’s how you deal with them that makes the difference.” Kevin always imagined that his father would have told him that, but he’d never met the man. Working hard, he’d pulled himself out of the swamps of his birth and into Stanford, pitching his way into a full-ride scholarship. Now he’s got another hard knock to deal with, this time from the hand of his ex-girlfriend and the public disgrace that followed.

A detective is woken from his bed in the middle of the night.

Brian decides to pursue a relationship with Nate, risking the disappointment of his bigoted father. Then he finds out how much like his father he really is.

Charlie's whole life has been a series of accidents. He often joked that if it wasn't for bad luck he wouldn't be here. But now that everything is changing again in his life what will this accident bring to him?

I guess it was my own fault for getting mixed up with the wrong crowd, Jimmy, Toddy, Hog and me, we had been sort of friends since entering year eight in high school, I didn’t smoke tobacco or weed like they did, nor did I drink alcohol, and my school mates seem to accept that, and still let me hang out with them at night on weekends.

Now at the age of 15, I was now being processed to enter a juvenile detention centre for a period of 3 years, for the brutal killing of an elderly man with a baseball bat, the same bat that my mates and I had been using for over a year now in the warehouse, and that’s how they found my prints on the bat.

This story was written as an addition to the Sanitaria Springs series of stories. Those are stories written by Dabeagle and other authors who he invited to contribute. They are about events in the lives of several teen boys who live in the fictional town of Sanitaria Springs in New York State. The stories are interwoven and this particular story picks up on a character first met in a story titled 'Without A Trace.'

I do not think it is essential to read that story before reading this tale as I believe there is sufficient 'back story' here to enable this one to stand alone, but feel free to do so.
