Paint It Black

Today was a pretty good day I suppose. I finally got all my tax troubles sorted out. See it all started over a week ago when I casually decided I'd drop by H&R Block on my way home from something and get my taxes done. I figured it'd be like an hour, standard fee, and I'm good to go...Well...NO! It took two hours and the fee the guy quoted me was outragiously high! We were in fact both in agreement that the fee was inordinately high so he told me to come back tomorrow and in the meantim

This is okay

We went to visit my mother yesterday and she was okay, just a little off center. She actually recognized the wife, something she hasn't done since the episode that put her in the nursing home. Then she said I could sell my house and move into hers since I'm still off work and am having a bit of a financial struggle. I said everything is okay and I don't need to move back to the family home.   Today, my son went up to visit and take the items on her shopping list. She thought he was me. He said

Busted chapter 64

[Kind of a transition chapter. And setup for the future. The guys have been nudging for a vacation. It feels like a good spot for a plateau, before we race into the finish]   Thursday morning Joe woke up and felt like hell. His left arm was stiff, his shoulder hurt like hell, and his whole body ached. The hotel bed had been fine as hotel beds went, but it wasn't his, and it wasn't Chris'. Not that he was going to end up in Chris' bed again. The closest he came was Snuffles. It wasn't the same.

if being a genius is hereditary....

... then that only further proves my point that I *must* know everything! Just kidding   So it's been a while. I've been awfully busy with parent teacher conferences, and report cards. and awards assemblies, and Rich's recovery, and editing for the anthology, and writing for the anthology, and working, and family visiting...   The kids are on spring break for 3 weeks and my son is sick Tony is home this week for spring break and we went to Disneyland yesterday. It was SO busy! Apparentl

Busted chapter 63

Joe stood on the sidewalk of his apartment complex and waved at Toby as Mary pulled away. It hurt, watching them go. It was the last time he was going to see Toby. He had a lump in his throat he couldn't get rid of, and it was all he could do to keep from crying. It was better this way, though.   He'd been honest when he told Chris he wasn't going to hide. But Chris had been honest with him, too, at the hospital. He wasn't Joe's boyfriend. And that had hurt. It was a really shitty day when the

Happy 60th Birthday, Elton!

Today marks Elton John's 60th birthday, and he's "still standing" better than he ever did. He is playing a special celebratory concert at Madison Square Garden tonight, which will be streamed live on MSN Music at 8:30 PM. Here is the link in case anyone reads this in time and wants to catch it (although it should be available for at least a few days afterwards for anyone who wants to see it, and there will probably be a DVD, too):   http://music.msn.com/eltonjohn?GT1=7704&   I had a p

Beautiful Boys

The purpose of this entry is to poke fun at the highly superficial behaviour, and fleeting attractions, which often characterizes those who frequent gay dance clubs, while also serving the duel purpose of being a stylistic exercise in writing. The events depicted in this blog entry did indeed occur, but are likely exaggerated as a result of the tenuous position memory holds against fantasy.   They were playing yet another techno version of some forgettable pop-hit as I stepped onto the dancef

What to do

One of the sites I post stories at, storywrite.com, is full of a lot of different authors...not just gay or straight. There's seperate story and poetry sites there, too, and I really enjoy posting there. One of the features of the site that drew me in was the story contests that people can put on. The prizes are points, and after you've built up a certain amount of points, you can have your own contest. I won Silver in one of them and grabbed honorable mention in another. So I figured I'd enter

Busted chapter 62

Steve was quiet the whole drive back to the station. That worried Chris. When Steve was quiet it was a sign he was thinking, and Chris really didn't want him thinking about Joe. That was something Chris himself was trying not to do, not that he was managing it.   He'd really f**ked up at the hospital. He knew that. Joe had needed him and he'd pulled away. Need might've been a strong word; Joe clearly could take care of himself. Chris was sure he didn't really need him. Still, he'd seen the hur

Busted chapter 61

[Ah, you knew it was too good to be true]   "Well, I'm all done," Nurse Dave remarked as he gathered up his things. "Someone'll be along in a bit to take care of you."   "Thanks, Dave," Chris said absently. His fingers were stroking Joe's hand. He wasn't paying much attention. Steve was, and he caught the wry smile the nurse had.   "So what happened?" Steve asked. He'd pulled out a notebook and pen. "Why'd you get carved up?"   Something flared inside Chris. He was feeling suddenly very

[i keep feeling like I ought to have Chris have a harder time with all this. I dunno, it feels a little too easy]   "What's going on? Dammit Steve, where the hell are we going?"   "Hospital," Steve said. He was driving like a madman. The car's lights were on, and he was weaving in and out of traffic.   "Why ware we going to the hospital?"   "Busy driving here," Steve said as he cut off a green SUV.   Chris spent the next fifteen minutes worrying. There wasn't any point in pressing Stev

Is America that stupid?

Voting for Dubya would lead one to believe so ... the fact that Sanjaya is still on "American Idol" is the final proof.   OK ... so I *love* "American Idol" ... I didn't even know what it was until a few months ago, since they didn't show it over in Taiwan. I'm sure it will wear off eventually ... but for now I'm enjoying it. Why? Probably because it gives pathetic people like me the room to dream that "normal" people have a chance at something great. At any rate, the fact that people keep vot

General plan for education

On the financial side I'm looking at loans, loans loans.   I'll be taking four courses this summer, and another five in the fall to complete my bachelor's by december.   In January '08 I will start graduate school. I will be completing it as quickly as possible, since I'll be taking out loans to pay for it and live off of. Five courses in the spring, four over the summer, and five more in the fall will have all my coursework finished in one year. Spring of '09 will see me doing my thesis and

[Mmmm, banter. And some background, though I'm not sure if maybe it's too late in the book to be adding in background at this point]   Chris and Steve sat at the back of the scruffy conference room. There were two dozen people in it with them. Some of them were other detectives from the city, some of them were detectives from the state police, there were a couple of guys from the Attorney General's office, and some PR guy from the state. They always got one of those whenever something that mig

It's Gone!

Ok, it's not gone, but it's different now....very different.   So what in the hell am I talking about?? Well, there used to be a site called Pufta ( I don't want to post the URL because now it has porn on it) based out of the UK, and it was one of my faves. You could find all sorts of dieting, beauty and fashion tips there. It was basically a place for gay guys to go and get good advice. I was following the Positive Adam series too....that was an online journal of a guy named Adam who was HIV

The F-Word

Warning this blog entry contains profanity, and while it's purpose is certainly not to offend those with a same sex orientation the subject matter may be offensive to some. The opinions expressed here are only my own and all comments, concurrent or dissenting, are not only welcomed, but eagerly encouraged. The Pecking Order At Home

Ok, so I think I have this all figured out.....   I work hard to keep a high GPA and I work ten hours a week. The lowest grade I've ever gotten was a B in conversational Spanish, and I practically got my ass kicked for that.   On the other side, my cousin was a straight c student, and just barely. He regularly lied to my dad about his homework, his tests and his attendance. He's twenty years old now and the only time he's ever worked was last summer when my dad took both of us to work with
