    Talk Talk

    By Aditus

Conversations. Sometimes it’s too much, sometimes too little, formal, informal, clumsy, artificial, with another word: difficult. Let’s practice, Shall we? #253 Someone is on the bus. The guy beside them fidgets the whole time with an irritating tinkling bangle while telling them, it seems, their entire life story, including very personal things. It’s time to pop in the earbuds. When it’s time to get off the bus, the talker has disappeared and the strange bangle is now on th

Gillygate's Updates

Hey guys 😀 First of all, don't take this as a nag. It's really not meant to be. But the daily updates only take place if the most recent chapter gets comments on it. Otherwise updates take at least a week. While I have quite a few chapters pre-written, more time to write them means the updates are likely to be longer. So guess that's up to you. Anyway as this story is much more relaxed I'm open to a heap of suggestions. Including spell recomendations or character inserts. Or any aspect

New Beginnings

SP and I got married yesterday -- the 1-yr anniversary of our first date.  We'll need to take off Monday morning to return the license to the court clerk.

Gillygate

This is less a serious work and more a bit of fun. Hopefully I can get a following somewhere. Pls comment if you like it and I can update a little bit every day, maybe encourage people to make something similar. I'm on Uni holidays and have had some thought about my next novella but nothing set in stone yet. I've done some reading but can probably stand to do some more before I start something serious. Thanks!

Inspiration of Babica Preja

I am something of a fan of folklore and mythology and I've done quite a few dives into such tales in the past. Babica Preja is something of an amalgamation of a few bits of Folklore with some Dungeons and Dragons underpinning mixed in.  The first source of inspiration of her was, of course, the oh so famous Baba Yaga. If you have no knowledge of folklore at all you've still probably heard the name said somewhere before, perhaps in the movie John Wick as that is his nickname. In folklore, Ba

Characters that awoke the Gay in me as a Lil Demented

The following are some of the characters I had a major crush on as a kid. There were characters I shipped together, and then there were these characters where I shipped em with myself.  Scar:  The character that I was obsessed with in Lion King as a wee little lad was not Simba or any of the good guys. No! This ambitious underdog of a villain who got in over his head was the character that I was truly enamored with. That voice alone is criminally sexy and I still Stan the fuck ou

Turns out typing in excess of 100K words in roughly two weeks can bust keyboards lol

So yeah, I've had a bit of whatever the opposite of a writers block is lately, and I ended up typing so much it busted my Laptops keyboard. Had to go out and buy me an external keyboard after, which didn't set me back much, but I'd thought I'd share that fun little anecdote. Apparently typing well over 100k words in less than two weeks can exacerbate wear and tear on a keyboard.

Praise be to the Spellcheck

Praise be to the spellcheck, for without thee I would be utterly lost. Lead me not into deceptive synonyms, lest thou reveal thine servant's inadequacies to his readers. Hallowed be the holy their, they're, and there, and may we forever remember where their holy presence should be placed within thine sentences. Reveal to me the differences between to and too, for I confess oh spellcheck the extra o still plagues your humble servant so. Forgive me my grammatical transgressions, and reveal to me t

in the quiet

sometimes, words come in the quiet     in the quiet i can hear my thoughts i can hear the dogs breathe, my own breathing slows, becomes deeper the sound of the fans, the house settling the small, simple sounds of the clock ticking the squirrels running on the roof   in the quiet i remember i remember bad decisions and good ones the stories from years past roll like movies through my memory when life was slower, less urgent   in the

MageCrafter and other Plans

I am really loving the reception that MageCrafter has received on this site. It is something of a passion project of mine and I appreciate that people seem to be really enjoying it in the comments and with their various upvotes. This will be my first work of original fiction so I'm glad that the planning I've done on it is paying off. I do not plan for MageCrafter to run forever. I have a plan laid out and it seems to be paying some pretty great dividends if the audience responses are any indica

What Makes Me a Man?

Caution: Some personal stuff concerning sex and sexuality is in this post. The reason I post it is for my own thought process, and with the idea that it may prompt other guys to go get tested if they're having problems. That said, here we go. I'm not very evolved when it comes to some things, I suppose. I fully accept that there are men out there born genetically female. That's not at issue. I don't define their maleness; my role in knowing and supporting trans folks is to acknowledge

News I Needed (COVID-19)

I have a meeting every Monday morning. In that meeting, we discuss SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, and specifically news and our response to the virus. Today the following information was released by our medical director, based on a huge sample study of folks who had been previously infected Concerning reinfection: To date, we have proof that five of thirty-eight million people have been reinfected by SARS-CoV-2.  This means once someone gets the virus and

Life in Plano, Texas

It's been a fun two weeks so far in my new hometown of Plano, Texas. My old faults have come back and are having a blast messing with my attempt at independence in the sunset years of my life. First, I suffer from chronic procrastination. What can be put off until tomorrow will enable me to do fun things, like write a story or read an article in The New Yorker, today. I have tons of broken down cardboard boxes that can't be put in the trash. They're supposed to be taken down to special dump

Counsel / Console

SP and I are going to start pre-marriage counseling next week. Expect it to be a bit rough, but good in the long run.  There are things in his past he thinks he's dealt with, that I don't think he has. We've had a few difficult conversations the last week -- not helped by my pain level having been extremely high for three days now -- but we'll work through things.

NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month

Next month—November—is the annual National Novel Writing Month. People are signing up, or pledging—or just thinking about—writing a novel in one month. I’ve thought about doing it before, but never actually managed to make the target (which is to write 50,000 words in a month.) Do you want to write a book that’s only 50,000 words? Do you think you can write that much in one month? All good questions, and personally, I’m not going to take part because I want to end up with a completed novel

Final Goodbyes and Continued Beginnings

We had the internment for my mom yesterday morning -- just my brother and I, our SO's, and my last surviving Aunt. My brother surprised both SP and me by asking if we wanted to go somewhere for lunch. Had a nice meal without any awkward silences, so that was nice. Maybe -- maybe -- he's changing some. But then just a couple of weeks ago when he stopped by to sign mom's life insurance paperwork he never even turned off the car. Doesn't seem like it's been almost 12 month's since SP and

Deep in the Heart of Texas

I've moved on. Back in 2011 I came to the end of my residence in the VA Homeless Shelter at the Salvation Army facility in Dallas, TX. My original plan was to get an apartment somewhere in the north end of Dallas, but my son said, "Hey, come on up here an live with me." His intention was for him to be my caretaker/caregiver in the sunset years of my life. Unfortunately, I get all my health care from the VA. Where he lives it's nearly 40 miles to the nearest VA clinic and nearly 60 miles to the n

Funerals and Caretakers

The past two months have taken a toll on me. There has been a lot of change. 11 years ago my mother passed. At the time I lived in Connecticut, but one call changed it. Not even a year later my father called and asked me to move back home. He didn't want to be alone. I was 40. Moving home seen the end of my dating, a rare night out every six months or so, and running to doctors for him or me. I had eye surgeries, a triple bypass, and felt the pressure to keep him going. I hea
