What elements make for a believable character? What can writers add that aids in the complete and utter suspension of disbelief? Lots of thing come to mind like quirks, back stories, associations, inner thoughts, tribulations - and the list goes on and on. However, something many authors have done with beloved recurring characters is to give them hobbies. Certainly Sherlock Holmes had several and varied 'pursuits'. Agatha Christie had Miss Marple constantly knitting. Let's try rounding out
Writing is an art that sometimes is inspired by other forms of art, including music, architecture, painting, or sculpture.

Someone drew a stairway with chalk on a street. Your MC sets foot on it and pretends to walk downward; suddenly he enters a basement. Describe what he finds.

It's been eight years since GA has featured a poetry anthology, so if you'd like to see them continue, please consider participating and supporting this one. I might be known for burning the candle at both ends, and I often feel the ill-effects of insomnia, so I loved this take by @CassieQ on the topic several years ago. For some people, insomnia means not getting to sleep, or not staying asleep, but we've all had moments where our minds played tricks on us after a long night, much less day after day of long nights. I hope you will like taking a look back at the creative take on the theme. So... what keeps you up at night?

Just a few personal notes to check in with this week.
I continue to be nice to Val, but my devil on the right shoulder keeps pestering me to throw that out the window.
Second thing, I’ll probably be taking off the next two wrap ups as I do believe I’ll be on a South Pacific Island. It has been actually 14 years since I took a vacation outside of a 3 hour drive from home. Just need to ensure I have reef friendly sun screen 😉
As usual, en
Character Casting
One thing that I remember most about trying my hand at the acting business was that I went into every meeting and audition thinking that I was going to nail the role. Hehehe, I was a kid, so why not? Right? I was going to go in there, whether I got the script ahead of time so I could learn my lines by heart, or if I just went in cold. How hard could it be?
So I’d feel all optimistic about my chances, and I’d make sure that I was prepared to give it my absolute best sho
Whether it's a warm, crackling fire while a blizzard blows snow against windows, or the cold clink of ice in a drink on a sunny, hot, sandy beach, the opposite sensations of fire and ice, hot and cold, are paired like no others. The toasty heat of a radiator or the supple coziness under a comforter are more delicious with the bite of cold and vice versa. So, for the prompts this week, we are going to explore opposites that complement each other.

I'm still working on fine-tuning the details for this year's poetry anthology - Exploration, so stay tuned to next week's blog for further information. In the meantime, I thought I would feature our last poetry anthology, which was eight years ago! Hopefully this will inspire some of you to explore the realm of poetry and participate in this year's anthology.
Our Review Team has put together a list of all the Reviews they did in 2022. You can click on any of them to see the actual blog. Maybe there was one that you said you'd read, maybe one piques your interest now, or maybe one looks like it would be a foray into a different genre. No matter what the reason, here is your second chance to see the Review.
Of course, we wouldn't get these great reviews without GA's Review Team, and they have room for more! Would you like to share your thoughts on
I"m curious, how you are doing on your New Years resolutions? I promised to not be mean to Val this year, and I haven't No matter what she says! If you want, share if you made any resolutions. The past two years I resolved to be more of a drama queen and failed miserably both years 😢 Hey, maybe you have a resolution for me
Can you believe we are in 2023 already? I'm pretty sure it won't be long before we talk about it nearly being 2024! Not sure if time flies faster the younger, or the

Although I've been in the UK many times, I've never had marmite. Since it's salty, I'd likely try it in porridge. After trying it on crackers first.
Vegemite is a maybe too. I've never had it either.
As I said once in my youth when I mixed bourbon with grape soda, it might be good.

BTW - I did drink two, but my taste buds were quite dull at the time. It did look rather pretty when it came back up.
This word prompted me to pause for breakfast, porridge.
Since I like my porridge savory, I put odd things in it. People typically make faces when they hear my additions. This led me to consider inporridgibility. Are there things I wouldn't put in porridge? Yes, there are. Tuna for one.
What would you dear readers never put in your porridge?
Thanks @sandrewn for making one of my favourite words even more interesting. I have used it in relation to people and their behaviour and some people have used it in relation to mine.
Even so I had not come across it in Philosophy. Unfortunately I don't have access to the full article at present and will need to go through a library. The concept is that a proposition is incorrigible if it cannot be corrected; that is, it is not possible that belief in it should be found to be mistaken. Robi
Never used some form of incorrigible? I find this hard to believe. But I suppose I have an unfair advantage. I've been called incorrigible more than a few times.
Most of the words of late offered here, I have never used and at my age, with the time I have left, probably never will. Life goes on.
I came across this, found it to be interesting and offer it for your thoughts.

I hope there are many comments to come on this one, I would like to see what you all think. Then offer my two cents worth, once the dust has settled.
