Travis made a point of thinking someone had trained him and trained him well. Which to me ment he had the motions down to a fine art. I know its loose as the statment along with others is vague at best, but there is also the whole mental thing Dennis is dealing with, and somoe so gaurded so accusing of others to splay his legs at the first sign of interest just doesnt jive to me.

Well, with equal success anyway. I would think.

 

Because of his difficulties with the idea of being gay, Dennis is very unlikely to be the instigator of any homosexual activity, and thus not likely to be the most active participant. It seems perfectly consistent to me.

I agree that Dennis is unlikely to initiate the sex, but that doesn't mean he's necessarily the "passive" partner once the sex is occurring. I'm imagining something that boils down to:

 

Travis: Let's have sex

Dennis: ...well...okay...I guess. But I'm not getting F-d, I'll top.

Travis: Whatever. (I'm sure Travis is versatile)

 

Okay, so I've come to a very psychoanalytical conclusion.

 

I suspect that although Travis would initiate any sexual activity, that Dennis would temporarily hold onto his dominant (non-sexual) role by being bit standoffish, completely emotionally-detached and dominant until his yearning for emotional connection and submissiveness and for being 'taken care of' (ie. by his neglectful parents) that is left unsatisfied in all other areas of his life would take over. Thus he would be bottom in the end.

An interesting evaluation. Seems plausible, although I still have a hunch that Dennis has thus far been topping. Actually I think in the end he'd be versatile too.

Well, this is certainly an odd poll , BUT I'm sad to admit I've wondered the same thing. I dislike labels "top" "bottom" etc, doesn't rly matter to anyone outside the relationship(fictional or real) in my opinion, but anyway I recall reading somewhere Travis getting a question along the lines of "what's up your butt?" and he thinks "nothing recently, maybe that's the problem" (Yes I realise Lakini already mentioned this, just adding it again to explain my reasoning ) so I'm betting on Travis being versatile or "bottom" . Wow, I really shouldn't burst back into the forum without catching up in the story... I think I've read up to chapter 6 and now Dennis is bottoming? (I had a feeling things would happen between him and 'ol Travis, so it's not a total spoiler)

 

Without reading the rest of this thread or the story itself I'll call Dennis a top only because he is (was) a macho footballer with a superiority complex in public. Although, his inferiority complex at home might suggest him being a bottom...

Thank God I read this all AFTER I finished the story (though, believe me, it was hard NOT to peek in these damn forums lol).

 

I think everyone's made good points so far, and it may be safe to assume that both Travis and Dennis have lines said about them in ITFL that points to them being both tops and bottoms. Dennis has experience...Travis thinks that nothing's been up his butt so far...and then of course, there's all the actual emotions (such as Dennis being "masculine" and "in-the-closet", and Travis being carefree, etc etc) to consider too..

 

So for now, I'd say that Dennis bottomed (again, pointing to the quote where he urged Travis on faster/harder/whatever)...but it would be reasonable to say they could switch off in the future. And hopefully, we'll actually get to see it happen this time though with how ITFL has been going, I'm not sure if any really sexual scenes will come up.

 

Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there. I only scanned most of the replies, so $5 says I basically repeated everything without knowing it ^^ I'm a tool.
