I dont think Dennis is a bottom...

 

Travis made a point of thinking someone had trained him and trained him well. Which to me ment he had the motions down to a fine art. I know its loose as the statment along with others is vague at best, but there is also the whole mental thing Dennis is dealing with, and somoe so gaurded so accusing of others to splay his legs at the first sign of interest just doesnt jive to me.

 

Also in reguarding Dennis being a bottom because he is such a "top" cant this line of thinking be applied to Travis, with more success?

I think the dialogue speaks for itself, Dennis was a bottom

 

While 'f**king' would imply that who ever 'f**ked' who was the top, I've heard many people use the word in reference to the act of sex. Like, someone would say, "Oh, I'd f**k him." but still be a total bottom.

 

But, anyways, I think in the most recent chapters, there has been evidence that they're versatile. I'm too lazy to look up the textual evidence, however.

I thought Travis would be a bottom, but from some of the comments made in Chapter 17, it seems like Dennis was the bottom.

 

 

i'd have to say that i agree here and that dennis would be the bottom. it kinda unnerves me that we never read what they do when they have sex in this story when all of the other stories have some description of what they are doing, unless dom is keeping it suspensful and then finally writing a scene with the two of them together in dennis's bed. i mean even for me just knowing that they are having sex is hot to think about ever since i read in 'the lo'g way' that dennis was at least 'bi' (if thats what he is and isn't completely truthful that he really HASN'T slept with women (it states that he is never seen with the same girl for more than a few days, or something like that)). anywhoo, i'm off to post some more here so that i can get to read 'sam i am'

It's hard to believe this thread has three pages in it! And yes, I recognize that by replying, I'm adding to it, so I'm part of it too.

 

But really, folks, why does it matter so much? Yes, most of Dom's other stories have sex scenes in them, and ITFB doesn't. And perhaps that bothers some people who just want to know every little detail. But personally, I think it's a stylistic choice that's up to the author.

 

ITFB represents a different writing style and a departure for Dom, and I think the writing has evolved significantly and it's a really sophisticated, well-written piece of story. And adding explicit sex scenes wouldn't help the story because that's not what it's about, and they would serve no purpose other than titillation or voyeurism here. Unlike, say, The Lo(n)g Way, which was more of a coming-of-age story where the sex scenes served narrative purpose, ITFB is making a different point.

 

I don't mean to sound preachy. I like a good smut story as much as the next person, when I'm in the mood for one. But ITFB isn't one, and frankly I'm quite happy with it that way. It's a darn good piece of story, and that's what matters to me.

 

As for Dennis's exact, specific preferences, I guess we're all free to use our imaginations.

Dom has spoken on the sex/no-sex topic in the past in blogs, posts, etc. I'll try to summarize (and if I'm wrong I'm sure DL will pop in and correct me ).

 

TLW had a lot of sex because it was his first story and he thought he had to have sex in the story. Dom also said that writing the sex scenes were difficult. Not that he didn't like sex or that he was a prude, but that writing the sex scenes were a challenge. Dom also likes to write original/unique stuff. Since he pretty much had Aiden & Owen do everything, there was very little new literary ground he could break. Also, a lot of Dom's fans said they skipped the sex scenes. I know I know, *gasp*. It took me a couple years to get used to the idea that some people skipped them.

 

So for those reasons, you'll see fewer and fewer sex scenes in the newer stories.

Chapter 25 of TOU is so amazing, as I commented in a thread long ago. If anyone wonders if Dom can write sex scenes, that should answer it. There's nothing gratuitous about it at all. If someone skips it, a major point of the story is missed.

 

Maybe there's similarly a scene between Travis and Dennis that's on the way some day that will be such a defining moment, and part of its power will come from our not having observed the details of their times in the bedroom before.

To me the evidence seems to point to Dennis bottoming. LOL, I'm too lazy to look up the relevant bits in the text right now though.

So if you read enough into both quotes u could make justifications either way.

 

I think in that first quote, it's Travis's backside that is sore, not Dennis's. Which would mean that Travis has been bottoming recently, or just that the ground he's sitting on is not very soft to the ass.
