I'm not going to go into details of the new chapter until some of y'all have read it, except to say this:

We've been fussing about Owen's not communicating, etc. ... but he's learning. (Actually, he's learning at age 18 what it took me a loooong time to learn ;) )

Kitty

P.S. Thanks for the heads-up, JC :)

P.P.S. Guess I'll defer to the guys here to figure out your proper reward.

I really liked reading this chapter. Very interesting and well worth the wait. The ending leaves me with many questions!

This was a fantastic chapter, and things are definitely pulling towards quite a climax! Wow! What a chapter!

Thanks Dom for a great chapter! I can't believe that this story is still getting better as we go!!

I'm not going to comment as I still have to re-read it a few more times (we can over analyze this one over the coming days :P ), but thanks again for sharing.

I know we are always clamoring for more, but you take whatever time you need to create your 'symphony of words'.

I'm still logging for closure between Owen and Nicky ;) .

This was a lovely chapter. Definitely worth the log wait. I feel like I got to know and like Ben and Leo a lot better, for one thing. And Owen ... he's really growing up, expressing a lot more about what he's feeling, plus having the maturity to let Tony go, trusting that he will still be there.

As to Dennis ... sigh. Things just aren't black and white with him. If anybody in any of Dom's stories is a tragic figure, it's him. A horrible home life, the lack of inner strength to stand up and deal with it, the unwillingness to accept help when it's offered. Owen sees that he can't help him - it could be dangerous to try - and yet he has misgivings about not doing so. Even though Dennis hurt Ben, and Owen's angry about that, he also has compassion for Dennis.

I'm not going to comment as I still have to re-read it a few more times (we can over analyze this one over the coming days ), but thanks again for sharing.

Why, Vic ... overanalyze? Whatever do you mean? :D

Dom,

Thank you, yet again for sharing your amazing talent with us. I trully don't know why you do it, but am so glad that you do. THANK YOU!!!!

Your insight into the human psyche blows my mind, if I had been that astute at 21 maybe I would have made a better person of myself :worship::worship:

As far as my analysis goes.......well like Vic, i will need to read again and decide how i want to post.

Dom, your chapter sucks!

(Don't kill me! It sucks because I'm left wanting more and more and both sympathizing and hating Dennis and hoping he finally does the right thing and turns his brothers in!)

*sigh* Why can't I ever just admit I loved the damn thing and the only reason it sucked was that I still want more?

DK,

You can't admit it because you envy Dom, lol.

But that is your bad..............your stories as amazing, grow some confidence!!!

Dan, I agree with Lore, your stories are great. Oh, and by the way...when will you update your wonderful HP fanfic Fate Sucks? B) I have read all of yours and Myr's fanfics now. One of you better update fast, 'cause I want more HP. Yeah, I know I just sounded like a spoiled brat, and that's just what I am :lmao:

I'm off to read chapter 27 of TLW :read: ...sigh, I must try not to read too fast. When I'm finished I'll just be wanting more and more and more

Kitty...your post says it perfectly......Dennis is a complex, tragic and sad character....

(I bet we see Nicky in Dom's story...I thought I read he said that.

but I also know we will learn more about Dennis and Reilly and I am sure Dom said Owen and Aiden and the gang show up now and then in that story.)

and yep, as Vic said, we will um analyze a lot....but that's part of the fun and the lively discussion and the agony and geez, why didn't I see that and great point and nah...no way, and so on...its all Rainbow Good:)

Kitty..i also note that Ben (the things one thinks of stuck in a log traffic jam in NJ....but I note that Leo is very angry and upset...but Ben appears to be at peace and moved on...perhaps his memory loss from the head trauma helped me and shielded him from unbelievably horribly gay bashing beating to what appears to be within an inch of his life..but I sense also that Ben has found his peace with the situation and with whatever happened. I could be wrong. But Dom has foreshadowed and given us greys and complexities for what may occur in future chapters.(as Owen says able to help Owen

regarding Dennis despite what happened to Ben)

I sense there is still a lot more, a way lot more we don't know about Dennis..(Reilly keeps telling Aide and Owen there is and he has gotten to know Dennis) but I know in a few of the chapters that in his own way that he came to Owen's aid and got his homophobic buddies to back off...he sure has a lot of conflict..I am just hoping he didn't actively participate and help plan Ben's bashing. I am also hoping he came to Ben's rescue..I feel if he helped plan and participate Ben's beating then he wouldn't have called Leo to get down to the high school to go get Ben..I will wait to see what happens..and whatever will be shall be.....but its still an amazing chapter....thanks again Dom:)

well vic normally i'd be hurt by a thumbs down but this is one time where i'm glad i got one. i really didn't want this to turn into a back story about a rape and after reading this last chapter i'm glad to say i don't think it will. i have to admit i don't like dennis. frankly he sucks as a person. but i can say that i understand why he is that way. it'll be interesting to see what happens when he finds out that owen knows what happened to ben. and didn't aiden mention something about "lyle"(i believe people have been refering to him as kyle but i believe it's lyle) coming home soon. i'm sure it's really gonna hit the fan then.

on another note. someone mentioned closure between owen and nicky. i don't see that happening for awhile. at least not until owen has the strength or desire to face going back to his hometown. maybe face his parents. unless of course nicky beats him to it and tracks him down. the theatre they saw eachother at was between there respective towns so it might not be to hard to track them down he'd just have to really want to.

but then i've been wrong before so it's in the hands of the gods, or dom.

You know, so much has happened to Owen since he left home, and he seems totally wrapped up in Aiden, his brothers, Ben, Leo, and his other friends....I wonder if he gives a shit about Nicky anymore. We haven't heard about him for chapters and chapters. Isn't it possible that he's just, you know, out of Owen's life?

Josh, you mentioned in another thread that you thought Dennis might have some sort of personality disorder, maybe dissociative disorder. I have the same feeling. People who go through trauma, especially when it's repetitive over time and in a situation they feel they have no control over, can psychologically dissociate as a defense mechanism. The obvious example is children growing up in abusive environments. There can be biochemical or other genetic factors which could predispose a person to doing so.

What's going on with Dennis feels a bit pathological to me. Dennis's family seems to be more than just dysfunctional to me ... Dennis's parents sound like they've got some form of mental illness going on there.

Here's why I think Nicky is still important:

Nicky was most recently mentioned in Chapter 26, during Owen's "counselling" session with Ben.

In Chapter 25 (seems like a long time ago, posted on March 5 "our time" ... but in "story time", it's only been a few days ;) ), Owen is worried about Dennis, so he is wandering around school looking for him. He starts thinking about when he was in the hospital after his father beat him up:

I began to think about the day after, when I had been absent from school. I wondered if there had been anyone there, wondering where I was, the way that I was now wondering where Dennis was.

Of course, the real closure with the past will take place in Owen's psyche. However, my prediction is that there will be a meeting of Owen and Nicky in the story, and when it happens, Owen will find out that he's been making some false assumptions about why Nicky never contacted him. Which would offer Owen an additional lesson, about not reading rejection into situations where none may be intended.

Kitty

I'm with Kitty on this one. Nicky was a big part of Owen's life and one way or another there will be closure between them. Although Owen fears that Nicky abandoned him, I believe he holds out hope that Nicky will still be friends with him. I believe Owen wants to let Nicky know "Hey, I'm gay, I'm happy, and I have an awesome boyfriend. Knowing all that, if you can accept me as I am, do you want to still be friends?" I believe Owen hopes that they can still be friends but knows it's possible that they won't. He won't know though until he comes clean with Nicky and lays everything out on the table (similar to what happened between Owen and Adam).

Here's a question...Do you think that Anna was with Nicky at the drive-in when Owen ran into Nicky? Or do you think that Nicky had already dumped Anna for what she did to Owen?

My money is on Nicky being an honerable guy and will still want to be friends with Owen.

Thumbs down doesn't mean bad (heck I gave two of them to myself), just that it wasn't right :P

Thumbs up on Dennis' brother LYLE :2thumbs: I also got a little apprehensive when it was mentioned that Lyle will be coming home soon. You KNOW Lyle's going to run into Owen somewhere or somehow.

Yep, I've got a good feeling about Nicky, too. I think he hasn't contacted Owen because he doesn't know where he is. Also, Nicky may have been prevented from seeing Owen in the hospital (maybe Nicky's parents figured out that Owen's father had beat him up and didn't want the same to happen to their son.) He may be feeling embarrassed about that, especially since Owen avoided him at the drive-in ... he may be thinking that Owen doesn't want to see him.
